Default Engine standoffs/mounts??

Hey guys, what's a good (cheap) source for engine mounting standoffs? I need a set of four, 2" or 50mm long, preferably for a 10-32 thread. I've got some 1" aluminum bar stock I could make them out of, but I'm lazy plus I hate wasting 1" bar stock just to make standoffs!

Anybody?

Thanks!

Wooden Dowels make some nice standoffs at a very low price .A person does need a good saw to maintain the same length.

BH stated it as I have for several years now. McMasterCarr has a good assortment of lengths, and diameters versus thread size. I use 3/8" aluminum hex (round is also available) with 8-32 threaded ends since I soft mount my engines. Actually 6-32 would work fine in my soft installation too, but have chosen to stay with 8-32s. I simply use a spacer in the mounting holes of the engine lugs....blue outer nyrod fits just about perfectly. Lengths are in 1/4" increments. These are very inexpensive and I use them on 55 cc engines

BTW, I've also used 5/16" diameters to further reduce weight on smaller 30cc engines. There is hardly a cost difference tho

I can't comment on the other source mentioned above as I have not used them. I do use wwwpspmfg.com with great luck. Love their fuel dots also.

Just checked Mcmaster Carr. Great prices on those standoffs! Much better than the 20 dollars and up for a set I was finding through the online hobby shops!! For some reason I never even thought of good old McMaster Carr.....

Thanks again,

My pleasure....I was in exactly the same spot 5 years ago when I needed a different set for my Syssa. Todd wanted something like 25$ for a custom set (which is cheap considering the machine time). I bought one set from him, But there had to be some other, simpler way.

And please don't keep it a secret. Let others know.....McMaster Carr has all sorts of stuff we use in gasoline apps....Ultra Copper sealant from Permatex comes immediately to mind; makes great exhaust gaskets and holds secure

Hardened bolts for prop hubs, sealing washers for cowls and anywhere vibration is an issue, and all priced by the 50 or 100 what we are used to paying for 4 or 5 of the damn things.

I think they even have the 2.6x8mm hitec metal gear servo arm screws with hex heads.

The list goes on and on

Yeah, I've been using McMaster Carr for many years. Don't know why I didn't think of them for standoffs.

Don't know if cheap, but great quality and looks. Chief Aircraft has always done right by me.

Just happened to think, there is something I can add to help you guys. www.aircraftspruce.com Their 1/8" "primer" line works great for our fuel lines. It is a bit too stiff for a clunk line inside a tank, but it is bulletproof and long lasting for all other gas engine plumbing, and is cheap to buy. They also sell the aluminum bar stock that I use for making prop hubs for a LOT less than McMaster Carr.

Hope that helps someone,
