Default Need help identifying mystery twin?

I recently purchased a 30% Carden Cap 232 with 70cc twin yesterday and am trying to identify the engine. The man I bought it from said it was a custom built Sachs 4.2cc and that was about all he knew. I have taken a few photos of the engine, and tried to identify it from Internet photos. So far, the only photos I have found which look similar to the engine I have is of the D&B engines by Ridge Machine. Though, the only engines they list are a 3.7ci (61cc) and a 5.1ci (83cc). The prop on the aircraft is a Mejzlik 24x10, about right for a 70cc I think? Can anyone help to identify this engine?

The only markings I could see on it anywhere was a small series at the base of the cylinder heads, "RO28131 150"

Thank you for your help!

Received an email from D&B, they said it might be a Phil Spehar engine? I looked online for the name but came up with nothing except a thread here from 2005.

I think Spehar was in NE Ohio? They've been out of business more than 25 years.

I have a muffler by them made for a G62. Nice

Yep, that's a Spehar 4.6 motor, had one a long time ago, it ran great at full power, mid-range wasn't so good.

Thank you for the replies, are Spehar engines the same as SPE engines? Found an SPE 75cc for sale a while back, looked exactly like this one. Can anyone tell me the rpm range, recommended prop (it has a Mejzlik 24x10 on it now) and gas/oil mix?

Thanks!

Not sure but I would imagine it is. 24-10 should be fine, oil I can't remember, but you probably can't go wrong with Redline at 40:1, same as DA recommends

This motor has one of my old C&H Ignitions.I can not remember selling any igns to Spehar. But maybe we did,It has sachs cyls. either 2 or 2.4 CI cylinders.Maybe a Old A&M or Brison.
Should be a good motor if crank hasen't slipped.

Thank you for your help, is the ignition something that should be upgraded? Hadn't even thought about that yet! Did some more digging on the web, found this thread and I believe the aircraft/engine there is the one I now own. Looks exactly like the plane and engine I have!

Are the "blanking plates" alternate positions for the exhaust/mufflers? Just curious. Thanks.

The " blanking plates" cover the carb inlet /intake passages . These get covered when the engine is converted to a reed intake through the crankcase .

If I remember correctly mine came with a "Pro-Spark" ignition with a separate coil, worked ok
