The best gasoline to use is 87 octane low lead with no ethanol and the best 2 cycle oil to use in a Kolm Motor, in my opinion, is Amsoil dominator. You can also use Red Line or Klotz all of these oils are synthetic and the mixture should be 50:1.
I am sorry but I do not know about the RON 95, 97, and 100 Oils.

We in asia dont use"in "octane". Based on conversion for 87 octane, its Ron95. Thats what im using to mix my 2t oil to fly.im getting the stihl hp ultra recommended by thomas for the kolm il155

Sorry people but I disagree with your choice of oils Klotz is rubbish and always was it mixed with methanol only and is not good for glow engines either Dr Gotz knows all in my opinion he recommends motul 400 off road or amisoil anything else in a four stroke engine is not recommended by him I use stihl oil in my stihl chainsaw it's a two stroke not a four stroke. As for getting a Kolm 310 flat four I ordered on in October 19 I was told today that the build is finished hope to get it soon. The model it's going in is a Pitts challenger 111 from RC Europe ordered and paid for in November suppose to take 6 weeks still no model hope to get it before I die cheers

do i understand correct: still no model from RC europe ?

thanks.

Hello, I'm hoping I can get some help with my new Kolm 50. After a one year build, I've finished my 1/4 scale Cap10. I mixed a fresh liter of avgas (ethanol free) with Motorex PowerSyn2t at 40:1. The prop is a 22-10 Menz S wood (in the photo it's a Xoar of the same size). Yesterday I attempted to start the engine for the first time, and I am having great difficulty with it. Initially I close the choke, flip until it pops, and then open the choke. Several flips more, and it will start. Runs rough (uneven rpm) and I have not been able to get it to go below 2200 rpm. If I lower the throttle more, it cuts out. More troubling is the fact that it will not rev up. If I open the throttle, slowly or moderately, the rpm rise to a maximum of about 4000 rpm and the engine stalls. No coughing, just quits. As soon as it starts to stall, if I lower the throttle, I can keep it running, but even when it is running, it is rough. Nothing like the several Kolm 50 videos on youtube. Engine was purchased new and came with the factory certificate indicating a 1250rpm idle and 6050 max rpm and 30 min run time with needle settings at L 1 turn and H 1.5 turns.
Thinking something might have gotten into the carb, I disassembled it today and checked all passages. It was spotless, clear screen, and the diaphragms are very flexible. Nevertheless, I run brake cleaner followed by air through all the passages. I then started it up, and tried opening the L needle in 1/8 turn increments. I can't do this with the engine running due to the inverted mounting. I took the needle out to 2-1/8 turns, at which point it would not run even at low rpm. It starts most easily at about 1.5 turns, but over the 1 to 2 1/8 turn range, it still refused to rev up. Less than 1 turn on the L needle, and it will not start. I then tried opening the H needle in small increments. Again, no improvement. Here are some other details I can share:
1) Fuel tank center line is about 35-40mm above the center of the carb.
2) All tubing is 1/8 inch ID F4040 tygon. Distance from fuel tank to carb is about 12 cm.
3) I use a 10 micron filter in the fill line from my gas container. There is an OS (for their four strokes) filter in the line from the tank to carb. Fuel flows smoothly out of the line to the carb.
4) When I reassembled the carb, I made sure to place the angled vacuum pulsation holes in the white heat insulator block towards the carb (as they originally were). There was no difference in the running before and after the carb inspection.
6) I am using a 5 cell NiMH battery pack. Voltage is good.
7) The ignition timing pickup has not been touched. It appears to be centered within the two mounting screws.
8) I did check the valve clearance. Within spec
9) The total run time I've been able to accumulate is only about 2-3 minutes. I've not seen any discharge from the forward breather vent, but a reasonable amount from the rear.
10) The engine seems to have excellent compression. My arm is quite tired from the hours of flipping to try to get this thing to run.
11) The engine is connected by a 20mm stainless flex tube to a two chamber Zimmermann exhaust.
12) NGK CM6 plug gap is fine (about 0.6mm) and it is fairly clean.

I'm at a complete loss to figure out what might be wrong and have been looking forward to hearing this motor for some time now. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

You have covered everything. The only two options left are to try a pressurized fuel system. If that fails you need to send us the motor. Very unusual for a Kolm. Please give me your email address.

Thanks. I'll try the fuel pump today and have sent you an email. I have a TCS micropump which should serve the purpose. Is it typical for Kolm motors to require a pump?

that means :
an IL230 in a spitfire is an absolut show stopper and everyone who owns one, is not willing to sell it again

if you be fast : till end of this month Kolm offers 10% spring discount.

Tom, is there a baffle kit available for the IL155 and the Carf Spitfire? I think Tony Clarke had them at one time for the IL150 and the P-51 as I have a friend that got his from there...

Does anyone know where can these engines serviced in USA?
I have a il 135 that has not run in last 3 years after I crashed my COMP ARF Mustang and I cannot get it running.
