Thanks Tom for the information but before sending the engine I noticed that the rear cylinder spark plug is not firing. I exchanged the spark plug an it's not the culprit. It's either the Electronic ignition module or the cable/spark plug boot.
Does any one know how how to tell where the problem is?
If not where can I get a new ignition module? I did a Google search for Gunter Muller ignition but could not find it.

if your ignition has the Mller sing, its pretty old. Kolm bought the ignitions and modified the Lay-out inside. You can send your ignition to Simon. Maybe he is able to repair it. If not , he will order a new one for you.
please send also the sensor cable.

Hi All,

My IL230 started dropping throttle every 2-5 seconds. example: if at half power the RPM's are fine then all of a sudden it will drop to idle for a second and then surge back to the throttle position I have. It does this at idle, mid-power and full throttle. Could this be a timing issue? The Haul sensor is still nice and tight. doesn't look to have moved. Or is this an ignition issue? Anyone seen this? I also noticed the RMP indicator dropping off line so often to zero and then coming back.. I'm starting to think I have a bad ignition module??? Thanks Rob

Sounds like it could be an ignition problem. But have you checked all the obvious possible fuel scenarios? Loose klunk, split fuel line, intermittent fuel pump, blocked fuel vent? is your system using a fuel pump or are you running a pressurized fuel system?
If you cover all of these scenarios and still have a problem send your ignition to Radio City RC for repair / replacement.

Thanks Simon., Yes, I run a fuel pump. not the pump. Just set it back on the bench and going to look at ignition wiring is loose anywhere and will look through the fuel system as well. If not, then I'll be reaching out to Radio City.

My 1/4 scale CAP10 with a Kolm 50 can now be declared airworthy, to which I can add that it exhibited good flying manners and a wonderful sound (Zimmermann exhaust). Had issues with the engine running rough in-flight but ok on the ground on the first two flights. A nipple fitted to the metering diaphragm vent hole and fitted with a tube routed into the air-frame did the trick. Pressure oscillation in the cowl might have been the problem. Steady and strong running in the air with good throttle response. Happy with the motor.

Hi Tom,
Quick question, do you know of any issues with installing a carb arm extension on the opposite side of the stock carb? This will allow the choke and throttle linkages to be close together for me back to the servos. Do you know of any issues with the carbs, mechanically, if I make this change? I don’t think it’s a big deal but I thought I would ask.
I would have to remove the retaining screw and tab seen here at the base of the extension plus grind a flat on the shaft.

Tom is there an issue with the ESC being next to the engine that you have seen? Any concern about the heat or other options for this installation?
Im going to keep the battery pack out of the plane to save the weight.

Thanks!

hey chris!

generally i think electronic devices should not be mounted in the cowl. Heat is never good for electronics.
make the cables longer and put it behind the firewall.

batterypack outside ?? really ? why ?
you telling me that you have an electric starter and then you would connect an external battery evertime you fire it up ?
are you using our ISB Box ?

you have the battery for the ignition onboard. same battery will supply the electric start, and the fuel pump also. so: no external or additional battery needed.

tell me if you need more informations!

Tom

sadly our onlineshop is still not ready (but coming soon).

the box is big like the ignitionbox (ok, bit less).

it has a kill switch inside, and a BEC that supports ignition, starter ESC and a pump out of one 2-4S lipo.

also it cuts the power from the Lipo to the ESC automatically when you switch the model off.

for your information:

Important information for our US Customers:
The trademark “Kolm” is not owned by Ploberger Modelltechnik in the USA. Radio City RC had to shut down the website temporarily to avoid litigation while this technicality is overcome.
Simon Bartlett at Radio City RC is still available for engine service, repair, and advice. We will be appointing a new US dealer for sales in the US
If you need anything at all please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or Simon at [email protected]

Hi,

A few questions regarding Kolm IL230 LE V4
Could someone help me and provide me a link for the Kolm IL230 instruction manual + installation templates? Also what standoff's should I use to mount it and where could I buy it?
Is there anyone using 4 Blades - Soloprop Hub & Blades? Which prop size and pitch would be best for this engine?
I'm new to Kolm engines and would like to break-in mine soon, do you have any advice on break-in process or what should I do it?

Thanks,
Roger

in what plane do you Plan to put the engine in ?
4 Blade we used Fiala, SEP and Ramoser Vario prop so far.
size from 28-30. Depends on brand and plane type.
Never used a solo - sorry.

break in :
just use good oil and fuel - fly around smooth and keep an eye on head temps. Use sensors on all Cylinders. more full throttle passes from flight to flight.

Hi thomas,
Im in the process breaking in the kolm BX155-V4. Below is some sharing to discuss.

Fuel mixture 50:1 using Stihl HP Ultra
3 blade Ramoser vario prop 25,9 x 18 pitch

1)1st test with original settings turn 1L, turn 1.5H
- Lowest RPM i got is 1100-1200. I can't trim lower because throttle level already reach fully at zero position
-When throttle up fast the transition is not smooth and will cause engine to die. Even with throttle delay 2.7sec the engine will die during transition to high rpm

2) 2nd test with turn 1 1/8 L turn 1.5H
- I can trim the throttle down to 800 -900 Rpm
- Require throttle delay about 2.7sec for smooth transition from low to high without engine dying and its working fine
-Is turn 1 1/8L too rich? You can see the amount of oil coming out from the video i shared. Is that normal or too much

Any suggestion or advice from this result would be appreciated.
