I talked to keith a few weeks ago while ordering some props and it will be well after the new year. They are trying to get the 110's out and the foundry hasnt made the cranks yet as I remeber.

He didn't happen to mention anything about updating the 60 twin to a lower weight design while you had him on the phone did he? There was a rumor on RCU a lonnnnnnng time ago that this was being considered.

I recently got a chance to visit Keith in Waco texas a couple days ago. From the way he was talking I dont think the 55 Xtreme will be out for quite a while because he says he has over 400 110"s on backorder. Another interisting thing that Keith told me was that he was going to start using ignition systems that honda and harly davidson use. He said that they were going to ship him some samples and if they worked he was going to start using them instead of C&H.

There goes the light weight they spent all this time and money getting...[8D]
A spark is a spark, doesn't matter what makes it if it's at the right time..
Dan Reichmuth was doing some Harley ignitions, maybe that's what BME is looking at....
Be nice if BME would come out with some FIRST hand information.....

Hey Kris:
Do you think that BME might sell an Extreme-110 without an ignition?
Some of us who aren't on the list might want one sooner rather than later.
I'm sure a Falkon ignition with DA plug caps could be bolted on fairly easily.

Mzybe we can get this thread closed down too [8D] Where would we all be without supreme knowledge of all things ignition ?
The two sensor design is found only with Reichmuth ignition, others use the best electronic control around, found in the C&H, RC, and Silent spark.. It is made in the US and there are thousands working flawlessy, and have been for many years..It is connected in series with an ignition circuit and can be set to advance the spark either 20 or 26 degrees, and have full advance at either 4000 or 6000 rpm..
A Hall sensor can NOT be damaged by anything except a broken ground connection, when the spark goes to ground through the sensor..Very high heat, more than anything found in the hub of an engine, will also damage it...
I have been making model airplane ignitions for 17 years, and could count on the fingers of 1 hand the problems caused by a defective Hall sensor...As for weight, a proper ignition circuit weighs only a few ounces...Hardly a big problem..
Sorry, the problem with BME delivery is not with C&H......
BME could probably buy ignitions from 3W or DA, they seem to be good enough for the TOC champions....
AND they didn't use a Hall sensor, until 3W came out with their new style ignition...
A Falkon or Vlach ignition would be another alternative, cheaper than DA or 3W...

Nobody said the double Hall switch was a good idea....
Vibration ? I thought BME engines didn't..
Heat ? We ran an engine all day long in Phoenix, AZ in the middle of summer, with the SINGLE hall switch epoxied into the ball bearing mount of my ignition..Temp about 105..No problem..And my ignition circuit is inside the mount of the engine, where heat would certainly be greater than the C&H, in a box in the fuselage, way cooler..All my sensors are epoxied in the the aluminum mount...
Don't remember wishing for anything....
Good luck to BME finding something better [8D]
