Default BME 102

Have recently become the new owner of a very lightly used BME 100 that was 102'd by BME after about 12 flights - head spacers, new crank, etc. As it is, it has the C&H Syncrospark ingition with the little rubber boots for the spark plugs. Now, the ground straps run up each plug wire and the whole affair (strap and boot) are secured to the plug with a hose clamp. The buddy I bought it from had no problems with this setup in his Staudacher but I am wondering if there was another option?

Hundreds of flights with the BME 105, and 105, zero problems with the ground strap setup. It does work.

That is the grounding method recommended by CH. I dont know if this option is available on the 102 but it is on the 50, you could send the ignition back to CH and have the BIG Bosch caps installed, you also would have to buy new sparkplugs.

I think that option is available on the CH website, but its expensive. If you have the really old style "short boot" with the shaved off plugs, you might want to send that in to CH, those did have issues, and its cheap to fix. Other than that, my converted to 105 from a 100 has been doing just fine with that setup - zero problems here either.

The boots are VERY short. I think sending it off post haste is in order. Thanks!!

Has anyone stapped some cans on the 102? I have two sets of stock exhaust, one slightly used with the pipes cut short and the other brand new with stock length. I am hoping that the plane the engine is going in will accept cans.

IM using K&S 70 CC Can's and header length is 9 "

Good luck in finding the flange's already made up. I had to buy a set of flange's for the bme & header set's for a DA 100 that had the header flange's welded up for the da 100. because desert aircraft did not have the elbow's in stock. Then i had to cut off the header flange's for the da 100. then have the bme flange's tiged on.......very costly.

I can post a picture if you like of the header's

A little off the subject, but what is the difference between a 102 and a 102EVO?

Ernie, BME started with their 5.8ci/100cc twin, and added a new crankshaft with a longer stroke bring up the size to 6.2ci/102ccs using spacer plates under each cylinder jug. Then came a new crankcase with no spacers and a bit longer nose, still a 102. The EVO had a further improved crankcase a bit lighter still, but whose main claim to fame was the larger and better breathing reed valve assembly.

Dennis,
I'd love to see a picture or two.

Tim,
You described the evolution of the particular engine I have. Started as a 100, new crank and spacers. Poof, 102.

Dennis,
Looks like good work. My Dad is a machinst so getting some custom flanges made up shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the pics.

Hey Nik Thanks.......there's nothing custom to these flange's for the price there not worth making yourself. i think they were 7.00 each from D.A.
