Default Thoughts on 3W-48B2?

I realize the 3W-48B2 is heavier than the single cylinder 50's out there, but I would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on the engine in terms of smoothnes vs the singles as well as general quality and reliability.

Thanks!

I have a couple of these engines and they are wonderful engines. They run very smooth and they are between the 3W42 and the 3W50 in power. They turn a 20 x 10 around 7500-7700 rpms.

I had one on a 80" cap and the plane had unlimited vertical at 2/3 to 3/4 throttle and my cap was on the heavy side.

Hope this helps

Elson

That website is priced in Euros. (1 Euro = $1.27 last week vs 1 Euro = $0.91 a year ago - send a thank you note for that to Congress and George Bush in particular for the budget deficit which is driving it. Makes us feel proud to see the US dollar trashed by our trading partners.)

Hans, thanks for the heads up! It may be worth waiting for the 55.

RCbugman, thanks for your thoughts on the engine.

Anyone else have any opinions on this engine?

Its not congress, George Bush or the budget deficit that drives it. Its you and I buying things made out of the US. Have you looked at the trade balances lately? You cannot expect any administration to solve that.

Guys, please don't turn this into a political debate and get this thread closed!

Thanks.

I've owned a few different 3Ws, but not the 48B2. My only concern is not with the motor but with the model. It's tough to find a model right sized for a 50cc motor that will have a cowl wide enough to hold a twin without cutting holes for the plug caps and maybe the top of the cylinders. Unless that's the plan, like a J-3 were you would show off the motor.

Thanks for the input RCIGN.

Looks like those who have them feel they run smoothly. I would guess they are smoother running than the singles in the same displacement range?
