The official word is you may or may not see the DA-75 in the future! If and when there are a quantity made, DA will announce it and start shipping immediately!!! Our friends at DA have their hands full at the moment trying to keep up with the demand of their current line. This is an extremely small company and they above all, know that there is a demand for a 75-80cc motor with their logo.
They announced the DA-50 and immediately had a waiting list! Then a company that made reed valves no longer made them so they had to find another source(long story!). Other problems crept up on them(bolts) and before you know it, people were moaning about the delay. They do not want this scene again. A company with a wonderful reputation does not want or need these complications.
With the emergence of more 25-28% planes each day, the 50cc is here to stay. As soon as my YAK-54 hits the door I/m getting my second DA-50.

Welcome to manufacturing.
Well, I like the WH Giles. The 25% airplanes seem too small to do much in IMAC and I'm not ready for a really big airplane that would require a DA-100. I do know that I like what I hear about DA though. I guess the choices are half the fun in this hobby.

FWIW the WH Edge, Extra Special and Extra 300L are 28% birds.
Sitting next to my 1/4 scale DP Extra, the Wild Hare Edge is MUCH bigger...A foot in every dimension, almost.
Has terrific presence in the sky, and a great footprint while close in during hover, and more stable in harrier, too.
That coupled with the fact that it flys 100% better than my DP Extra makes the 28% class WH a definite keeper for me.
Here's a tip, try the combo WH/DA~50, I'll bet dollars to donuts if you don't love it there will be several people willing to take it off your hands immediately, considering the wait time on the engine/plane order status without depreciation.

The Wild Hare Giles 202 weight about 22 lbs
Probably not enough motor for a 22lb plane.
Back after 30,
You are dead right. If you are even considering the 50 but ain't sure - give DA a call. If they feel strongly enough that it would be an Okay mix they may back it up with a exchange / credit situation. But for sure it would be snapped right up in an auction at or near full price if it's relativly new.

Tweet. Why dont you consider the H9 97" extra with a zdz 80. It is a great imac plane, doesnt require an expensive twin and does 3D much better than the giles (IMHO) I doubt very much you could get a WH giles in at 22 lbs. 23 would be great, ~24 expected (with an 80) My zdz 80 only has about a gallon thru it, but It is about as easy to start and runs as good as my other BME's and they have all run Great

Back after 30,
Thanks for the feedback there. I was wondering about the WH presence compared to the PW or similar.
Smallfly-RCU that is good advice and I wouldn't go wrong. I'll check it out. I like the idea of the WH airplanes, but IMAC is definitely my goal.
Doc_Detroit, A lot of people buy ZDZ-80s and have great luck with them. The overall tone for ZDZ seems pretty positive when I look at all the threads, but the DA comments are almost always positive (except for the expense).
I think both are probably great engines and the ZDZ 80 is here while the DA 75 is not...a good thing for the ZDZ.
For me, what I like about the DA is that I know for sure I won't have any problems with it. I'm competent, but no gearhead and I definitely want to avoid the hassle factor. I'm sure I'd also be happy with a ZDZ though.

Why is everyone waiting for a DA-75 when the ZDZ-80 is currently available? Has anyone heard the specs on the DA-75. Is it supposed to be better?

If the DA-50's perforance vs similiar engines (Same holds true with the 100-150 engines) is any indication of the type of performance the 75 will have then in my opinion (we know what that's worth) the 75 will be a monster next to the 80. For now I got my 50 last night an it is just beautifull. Sure, it may be more expensive then a competitors brand, but look at the machining and attention to detail that this thing has and to be honest I think I STOLE it from dA

You and me BOTH, Rick...I carried mine around for a week, sat it on my desk during working hours, as a conversation maker/story teller....just beautiful fit and finish.
3 of my friends who had Saito 180's on order canceled them and ordered the 50's the next day, it's just that impressive.
Then, a few more were there during the "first start"...4 choke flips, 3 regular flips, Bam..put put put....2 more guys ordered theirs the next day.
And everybody agreed that from the first phone call to DA, they teated you like your the only customer they ever had.
Every thing DA sent was exellent quality, (just look at your photos) and a "cut above" what I had even expected from even them.

4 days ago I sent off emails to RC Showcase and Desert Aircraft asking them if their respective 50's were in stock. I also asked a couple of noob questions since this was to be my first gasser.
Within hours I had a response back from RC Showcase. Since then we have had more than a couple emails go back and forth. They were extremely helpful with all my dumb questions. Every emails was responded to very promptly.
4 days later I still have not heard back from Desert Aircraft.
So based on my customer service experience I just bought a ZDZ-50NG.
I know everyone raves about DA's customer service, but at least in this isolated case RC Showcase's level of service was much better. I guess that is why I didn't understand why everyone was waiting for a DA-75 when the much acclaimed ZDZ80 was available now. Now I understand that DA has some very loyal customers.

I've only contacted DA by phone. I guess it's now the old fashion way of communicating but the folks at DA were great to talk with. I called in the morning and was able to get through every time.

Let me see if I get this straight...you bought a ZDZ because of a returned email...that's your deciding factor in customer service?
No specs..not the countless reviews of folks who own them...returned emails....Whew!
Naturally you weren't predisposed to either brand, your determine factor on which engine to own was based solely on email.
I don't know whether to laugh or pity you.

They are probably both great products, but I decided to go with a Wild Hare 28% Extra Special and a DA-50. Both companies have good reputations for customer service. The DA is certainly a safe choice and a really nice piece of hardware.

I agree with RickP, The 75 should be compatible with all of the 33%er's etc, it should provide slightly more horsepower than the ZDZ 80 with less weight,,, But we can only hope...[

Hey Smallfly, read your post out loud once or twice.
Jon did not offer a review, he stated an opinion, that he HOPED would occur.
Your comment is petty and unwarranted.
Since when does an opinion have to be unbiased?

Interesting, It is your opinion that a smaller engine THAT DOES NOT EXIST, Is more powerful than a larger displacement engine that does exist. Thanks for the unbiased review
