It is a Sachs 4.2 cylinder, its just machined on the outside to be pretty. If you are running it on glow then there will be an adapter in the cylinder to make the spark plug hole fit a glow plug. Also some had a second glow plug installed. This would be the only mod you would have to make to a stock cylinder.

I apreciate the help, well all the stated brands have diffrent cylinders than the PE but maybe Makita, I should see that. If in any case someone had one used cylinder or new that wanted to sell I would be happy to take it off his hands.

.ALL 4.2 stated brands use the Sachs/Makita 49ZN cylinder...TKG was correct, the cylinders are basically the same, just machined on the outside to look pretty...
NOBODY sells a 4.2 single with a different cylinder, there aren't any..PE made singles, inline twins and inline triples.. Some were glow, some ignition..Red and gold anodized cases...Brison cases are also anodized..Fox cases are polished...Some use Sachs cranks, some make their own..Sorry if you don't like the answer, It's FACT..Been looking at and repairing these for 18 years, starting with A&M and Lee Sachs conversions....
The 49 cast into the cylinder base is the bore size, 49mm..The stroke is 36mm.
Actual size is 4.1 cubic inches...The saw is a model 120 Super..
There IS a 4.2 Sachs, model 122 Super and 123..47mm bore, 40 stroke...
Specs from the Chain Saw repair manual, Intertec Publishing, 9th edition, page 452.

I might be wrong I am just saying what I was told from my mechanic. I personaly have a Brison 3.2 and he's got this PE engine there. Since the engine had a crash in the water the cylinder broke, so he was looking for a new cylinder and he told me that he wasn't able to find one that would fit that engine. Now he knows that Sachs Dolmar Cylinders are used in all those engines, so I presumed that he knew well those cylinders. He stated that no one would fit the block. If you state that ANY one will do than I will thell him that.
I pesonaly have very little knowlege on Gas engines.

I just looked at 5 of these, there are slight differences. The closest one is on a 4.2PE with a red anodized case..The casting numbers on the base are 49ZN4 W2+ MAHLE....The cylinder extension at the base is machined flush and the transfer ports are opened straight down to the size of the hole in the crankcase...The bore and stroke is the same for all, so any cylinder you find should work...Air Hobbies used this same cylinder, I have one here....The Air Hobbies cylinder was not machined flush or ported like the PE....

Don Kanak at Planes Plus made the PE Engines. I have several and they run great. Check out the Planes Plus website for the number and call Don or Carla. I'm sure they can help.
