There are several very long threads on both the Hurricane and the Hellcat in the Warbirds forum. You can get the Hurricane from: [link]http://www.kmp.ca/[/link]
You can get the Hellcat from: [link]http://www.raidentech.com/[/link]
RaidenTech also has a pretty nice P-47D Thunderbolt that can take the Roto 25.

RE: Roto 25
Hmmmm looks neat but it is a bit heavier than the H9 P51 and has a smaller wing span. My P51 weighed 13.5 lbs. They are spec'ing this at 17lbs on the top end. Yes they do list this as 26cc gas (they are probably trying to sell their new Evo gas engines!). I would be concerned about the overall performance of a 17lb model with only a 25cc gas engine? My P51 flew great with the Roto 25 but a bit more power would have been nice (higher vertical climbs). Looking at the specs on this new H9 P47D I think 25cc is on the low end. Sure it will fly it but it wont be stellar performance.
However a roto 35? or the new H9 Evo 35GT?

Also check out the new Hangar 9 1.50 Razorback. Looks great and should be the ticket for the roto 25 / 35vi. Oleo retracts too!

RE: Roto 25
Cool! Thanks guys. I did not know about Raidentech. Heck they are local to me too!
After 25 years of building kits the quality of the ARFs these days has spoiled me!
Not sure I would have the time for the KMP kits.......

RE: Roto 25
Richard, In reviewing the KMP web site I am a bit confused. Are these kits where you build the airframe up or are they simi ARC's? The pictures seem to show that they come with the major airframe components built and you cover and assemble. That I might have the time to do as long as I don't have to assemble a box of sticks?

Richard,
So when I look at this link under classic ARFs
http://www.kmp.ca/rcpics/b25pics.htm
It looks uncovered? Or are these images of the manufacturer (KMP) during the build process?
Thanks,
Bob

The KMP warbirds that I'm talking about, such as the Hurricane and the P-47, are ARF's: [link]http://www.kmp.ca/classics.htm[/link]

Got any pictures of your spitfire withty he roto in it?
I am very interested in this ARF for the roto.

Thanks,.

RE: Roto 25
Here's a few more...
BTW. The retracts are from Century Jet and are designed specifically for this model. I thought that would be the best way to go, but I have been VERY disappointed with them. They have bent on every landing (I'm not exagerating... every landing.) The retract mechanism seems o.k. (although there seems to a lot of sloppyness in them), but the struts have been a disaster. Right now the plane is sitting on the shelf waiting for me to save up some cash so that I can replace the struts with something beefier from Robart. At least the robarts attach to the retrach mech. using standard music wire which can be replaced quickly and cheaply. The CJ's use a custom machined insert that you have to purchase from CJ.

RE: Roto 25
Bob,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your P-51. That sounded like a great combination. I think you are right about the Roto25 not being enough engine for the H9 P47. Luckily, there are other options for your Roto25 as mentioned in this thread. Good luck with your next plane and let us know what you decide!

RE: Roto 25
Raston,
Great shots! Looks like the Roto fits the bird very well!
I may go this route!
Thanks for taking the time to show them.
I too bought the Century retracts for the H9 P51 and too have been very disappointed with them.
Just like you they bend unless you GREESE the landing. Really sloppy too although I have fixed the slop with shims.
My buddy thinks the design is OK but that the materials they used were to light in some areas.
Bottom line I would never buy another set from Century.

RE: Roto 25
Raston, a couple of questions about the CMP ARF.
I have seen a few of their models and some look good and others look too cheap.
How is the fiberglass fuse? Sturdy and built well?
Does it come with retracts? Some of their models do and others don’t.
I know if it does they will be cheapy mechanicals.
These seem to work OK on some models like my Modeltech P51 Short Fuse Sally but did not work on my H9 P51 (they were to flimsy).
Are these a must replace for this model or do they work semi OK e.g. can you get by with them?
Any other items you might want to point out about this model?
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Roto 25
The fuselage is very well done with a good balance between strength, but not too heavy.
The plane comes with fixed gear bits & pieces, but is retract ready, including wheel well liners (but I didn't use the liners... made my own).
The paint is well done, but it does come off the wing fairly easy, so I used top flite lusterkote flat-clear to seal the whole plane after doing the panel lines and other mods I added.
The other things I changed were for my own building and aesthetic tastes:
-added radiator, oil cooler, air intake scoop to bottom of the wing
-added panel lines to the wing
-added full cockpit and pilot
-painted exhaust stacks on the cowl
-added antenae mast and routed receiver antenae out to it
-changed tail wheel to more scale looking custom made setup
-added 1 inch to the top of the vertical stab and made a new rudder match
-used heavy-duty golden-rods to control the tail feathers
(my wife works at a paint store so she mixed me up a pint of flat latex brown, blue, and green to match what came on the plane. It worked well)

You did a beautiful job on the Spitfire! The Roto25 fits in there real nice. I just flew mine this morning and reminded myself how much I enjoy flying this plane. How does it perform with the Roto25 and what prop are you using?

RE: Roto 25
Raston, Got the Spitfire!
Question if you don't mind. Did you use the motor mount that came with the kit for mounting the Roto25?
If so how is it holding up?
I was thinking of going to a metal mount but if the stock nylon is doing fine then I will use that.
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Roto 25
I used the stock engine mount and it has taken a beating and is holding up fine. The only advantage I could see in the aluminum mount would be if it were like the dubro mount w/ soft mount. And I don't think the extra wieght of the aluminum would be an issue.

finless,
My KMP P-47 120 size, Roto25 inverted on it, stock muffler.
The nylon mount works fine, absorbing the vibration much,
although Roto25 is a very smooth running engine.

Very Nice!
Question:
How do you guys get the spark plug cap through little holes in the firewall? I assume you have to desolder the spark plug cap from the cable, run the cable, and solder back on the spark plug cap?
