A guy at my field is building one right now and he bought a BME 50 for it. Another flier at our filed has a BME 50. It is NOT as powerful as my DA. I can swing a 24x8 Menz at the same RPM he can a 22x8 Menz.
Give it a shot the DA is more power and weighs no more either so... I know I saw a video with Chip flying one with a DA in it. It definetly had power!!! It would be fine as long as you manage the stick.

Hey JohnVH,
You are the only one so far i've seen who has used the DA50. Its difficult to get pictures or any type of template for this setup. DA did'nt have the awnsers either to how to mount it. I understand you removed about 1 inch of the engine box. I think i will try decreasing the stand-off lentgh from the 2.5" to 1.25". That method requires putting a hole through the center of the firewall to accomodate the carb. Do you by chance have any pictures of your set-up for references? Also do you have any other tips i may need to know about this set-up in general? Thanks -a-bunch for the reply and assist.

John, that sounds like a fun setup. Is there anything you would change? Does it feel heavy with the DA? That is a massive amount of power for the weight. I could handle it (yea right!~) haha!

Hey guys, Im trying to wrap up a review on it for RCU, I took one inch off the firewall, used the mounts DA send with the engine, thats about it, I made a new firewall from 1/4" ply. It was easy, and man is it ballistic!! Put two more flights on it today, only thing I would change is maybe taking 1-1/6" out of the right side, and only an inch off the left. it looks like it is doing 100mph straight up[X(]
You could just use shorter stand offs and cut a hole in the existing firewall if you wanted to, I wanted to get weight off the nose, so I figured maybe cutting it off would be a good idea.

Hey John,
thanks again for the reply. Sounds like this combo is going to be a blast to fly ( no pun intended). will report later on how she does. Look forward to its maiden flight. Thanks again!!

Nitro2bass I put a zdz 40 in mine and they are about the same size. I didn't cut the firewall down I cut a hole in the wall for the carb. With the right thrust in the firewall I ran a string from the tail to the noes held my motor out at 6" and marked a hole then went and found center with the exciting holes and did some measuring and found new holes and drilled and then cut the hole for the carb and installed and it came out great. It wasn't quit as easy as it sounds, it will take a little time but it worked. Talked to chip about it and he said I did it the right way. And wanted a pic of it so he could have it to show people. But I don't have a digital camera. Im purity sure the DA 50 would work much the same because like I said they are close the same size I got the dimension of both before I even bought the motor. because I was going to go with a DA but a few people told be they thought a zdz might be better, so I trusted them. I have only been able to fly it once because of the weather here and it flew great, Im around 4700'

lztat573 that does sound a little tricky. what i did to get my hole for the firewall was too use the original stand-offs that came with the motor, mounted to the firewall, and then trace the outline of the carb to the firewll. Then just cut it out to fit. i did manage to find a template for the DA from a buddy of mine when he got his Yak. Thanks again
