I am going to get my first 29% and I can not decide which to get the DA- 50 or the BME 50. I personally like the way the BME is set up, and the people that make them in Waco Tx are awesome. I do not like where the carb on the DA is, but what about performance differences. Does anyone know something I dont know?
Thanks alot.

Brandon,
I had the BME 50 on a 29% AW Edge. Couldn't be happier.
Reliable starts and operation, never a dead stick, and unlimited
vertical on that 16# edge while I was still using break in mix.
Sold that combo and I believe the new owner is happy with it also.
On my new 87" Yak I opted for the DA 50. I haven't started it yet
but people say that the DA is more powerfull than the BME. Another excuse
is that the Yak was designed with that engine in mind so the install was real easy.
Plus, the couple of times I got to talk with the people at DA I got the feeling
that these guys are there for me for the long haul and not just for the sale.
I'm not implying BME won't do that just as well but DA's service is hard to beat.
Having said that, you should get what will make YOU happy. From your post
I get the feeling you favor the BME. You can't go wrong with it.
I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if the aplication was right.
Take care,
Stratos.-

The only problem you will have with either of your choices is getting one. They are always sold out and on back order. If you want the BME, send Kieth an e-mail. It ALWAYS works better than using the phone. He will probably respond by the next day.

There are a lot of discussions on this subject. I have experience with the BME , ZDZ(RCS), 3W, DA, Brison and Fox. DA gets my vote. Better power, easy to mount (believe it or not that carb is very easy to mount, easier that the others and comes with control arm installed), lighter weight, and, in the event you should ever need it - world class service.
DA truly understands what service is about. 3W is a close second, but the others I have had issues with after the sale when it comes to service or support - not bad, just not like DA.
In the end - any of the engines above will serve you well.. its really a ford vs. chevy thing you have to make your choice based on what your gut tells you.
I use DA and 3W because they are in my back yard. Anything I need is only a few hours away and they ALWAYS answer their phones.
I hate waiting for email returns...
My next plane will have either a DA100 or BME110.
BTW - at last check the DA was only running 2 weeks wait.

I'd check Taurus also especially since the have a new design. Might cost a few bucks more, but you get an engine that has bearings on both ends of the crank

I know that you asked which engine was better, the DA or BME. I will also will cast my vote for the "TAURUS" engine. In my opinion they are better engines than either the DA, or the BME. I have owned both the 4,2 and the 3.2 Taurus, and They have always proved to be bullet proof engines. I will admit they cost more than most other engines in their class, but I think they are better than any engine in their class. With the possible exception being the 3W, line of engines. However, the Taurus is lighter than 3W and it will run allmost as smooth as most of the twins out there. That's because of it's design. It not only has three bearings on the crank, it also has a crankshaft that is really more like an automobile crankshaft, than the cranks found in most other lines of engines. If you need more proof as to their quality, and reliability, then just run a search on any forum for "TAURUS", and I don't think you'll find 1 thread that has a negative comment on them. That's good enough for me, and that is why I picked Taurus, for my first gas engine. Either of the engines you mentioned will be OK. But don't buy before you at least get in touch with Bill, at Taurus.com, and have him give you the details on his "Taurus" line of engines. ( Taurus will be introducing several new engines at the TOLEDO, show.
