Got me a Q35 (1st gas engine so I dont know too much about them) and I need to know what kind of kill switch to use, where to get a switch , as well as how to wire it all up? Any help would be appreciated!!!
Also, where can I find a spark plug for this engine? I was told to use a Champion RCJ8Y but Autozone doesnt carry this number of plug as well as another parts store I tried.
Any comments or suggestions will be welcomed!!! Thanks!! John

The plug you can usually get at any Lawn Mower shop as well as some Home Centers such as Home Depot and Lowes.
The kill switch can be any kind of switch, slide or toggle (radio shack can help you out) that's SPST or DPST.....
Just hook the kill switch between the engine block and the empty terminal on the magneto. The engine is "killed when the switch is closed, i.e. shorting the magneto connection to the engine block.

NGK BPMR6Y, Bosch WSR6F, anything with an "R" in the part number..
An old Q35 with points will not have an empty terminal on the coil, connect the kill switch to the wire that comes from under the flywheel..That wire goes from the points to the coil..Grounding the points kills the engine...

Thanks much guys!! I only see one terminal coming off the magneto so I'm guessing thats where the switch would tie into (as branded states). If I hook a plug into the spark plug boot and ground the plug to the engine block and turn the prop by hand, that should give me a spark , correct? Or will I not be able to turn the crank fast enough for a spark?
Thanks again guys!!! John

It's doubtful that you'll be able to turn it fast enough by hand..... If you do try (assuming its mounted) then it's best to do it in very low light. It's difficult to see. Since there's no plug installed (no compression) you could probably turn it over with an electric starter to get the speed you need.

As branded said, with the plug out and grounded to the case, turn it over with your electric starter and (in dim light) you can see the spark quite well.
