I am planning on getting a Jerry's big boy and my first gas engine. I was thinking of a Zenoah G26, but I have seen a lot of posts where people have trouble getting them to run right. Quadra, Fuji, and US make engines in this size range but I have no experience to make a choice.
Whats the best engine under 2 ci???

I just put a G-26 on my kit built Four Star 120. There were no problems in starting or running the engine and it has nice power for the plane. The throttle linkage was a little fussy but it starts easily with my Hobbico electric starter and there was no muffler to buy. Friends have used them successfully and happily in a Sig rascal 110 and the big H9 Clipped wing Taylorcraft.

If you want to make them easer to start, You can get one converted to electronic ignition. They are also liter than stock. with the flywheel and coil removed, and an aluminum prop hub added.

If you want a g26, buy one from RCIGN1.
It is much lighter and is converted to an electronic ignition. I have one and it is great. The best prop to use is a mejz 18x6, let the engine turn around 9000 on the ground and you will have about 17+ lbs of static thrust.
Ralph is going to be out of town for a while if you don't hear from him.

For a first time small gasser it's hard to go wrong with a G-26. Either the stock version or one modified by RCIGN. A little more research and you would find that just about all the people that have had problems failed to follow the instruction manual in the mounting position of the prop. Any of the Zenoah line of engines, with just a little care and avoidance of the ground, will like as not live longer that you will. The price is good and overall they are in the upper echelon of the engine manufacturers. They may not be hot rods, but they are extremely reliable. That more than I can say for at least two of the other engines mentioned in this thread.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like it will be a G-26. I also like the idea of electronic ignition and the lighter weight that goes along with it. Does RCIGN sell these conversions complete, or do I buy a kit for my G-26? How much extra cost? Anyone know how I can contact him?
thanks
