Grind the cone down at the small end so they don't touch.

I've used a simple Dubro teeter balancer for many years. They work great! They'll even show side to side balance.

Brilliant RTK. I was finally about to think of that myself!

That's why I always spin my prop on both cones and re-check balance to make sure I'm not seeing this effect.

problem with most balancers i've seen is the way the prop is supposed to be centered with those stupid cones. all it takes is a slight imperfection on the very edge of the prop hub's hole for the cones to hold the prop way off center! when clamped right it is amazing how close to perfect balance APC props are...but put them on the cones and they suddenly need lead added to one side of the hub...

APC props often have flash on the edges of the hole that must be slightly chamfered. As for the hole being slightly off center; if it's off center on the balancer, it will be off center on the engine, and that is taken care of by the balancing process. I doubt a composite prop hole is off more than a few 1000ths.

LOL, every prop that i get sits perfect on the table, balanced and everything...haha, thought all props balanced perfectly.(that only refers to my 22-24 " Props, anything smaller i've balanced before) Seriously they just sit there and teter back and forth until they sit level. Lucky me i guess!

I discovered something, quite by accident, about the Zinger props I've been using. I like to have my props dull black in color with a yellow tip. Around the second or third prop I painted, I decided to first strip all the clear finish off that comes with the prop. What a difference - They balance! That clear coat is tough and uneven. If you want to strip it, use an industrial strength paint stripper such as "Jasco" (Home Depot, etc.) It takes several applications, light scraping, and steelwool (no sandpaper). A repaint of one light coat of automotive FLAT spray paint does not upset the balance. Every Zinger prop I've stripped so far was in-balance on my "Power Point Balancer".

Who carries the 'Power Point' balancer and is it a good one? Thanks, Joe

Found that out on two props. Sometimes the hubs are way off. I just put a layer of Epoxy on one side. If it still needs more I add another layer until it's perfect. I'm glad I didn't just run those props with the hubs off so much. Not good for the engine and air frame.

AS specified on the video, don't forget to balance the hub!! You'll be surprised how much weight you need on one hub side to balance, when the tips are balanced.

How about balencing 3 blade props. I'm wanting to get an 16x10 for my fuji motor, and not sure on how to balence the hub and tips.

Hi Pilot,
File down the small end of the cone that comes offof the shaft, so that they will come down on the prop. You will never want to balance anything with a hole smaller then 3/16 anyway.
