Excaliber,

Actually, this engine is well worn and running on 80:1 now. I tried the NX 22x8 prop but I liked the plane's performance better with the 22x10. I'm going to try a NX 23x8 just to see how it goes. NX props are easy to get since Airwild's shop it very close by and their performance seems to be pretty good also. Taurus is considering using NX props as a standard for establishing engine performance baselines.

BTW, Bill @ Taurus is now recommending running Amsoil at 100:1 after break-in because of some issues of gumming and sticking of the piston ring.

I've been running a taurus T-52 for three years now. All I can say is this engine is not for sale! I've had NO issues with it. It will be going on my WH ULTIMATE as soon as I find time to assemble the kit.

If anybody is interested, the word is out that the Taurus (Beamer Convertable) is back in production for those fellows that need a rail mounted engine for the profile kits. Did not see any info on the web site yet.

Issues to address are

1- Bill Pryor---GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!!! I thought you were lost-how are "the twins"?
2-Do a search and you will find my positive comments on almost every Taurus thread
3-I have owned a number of Taurus engines and (other than ignition issues) have never had a problem.
4-The Taurus GearldRosebury talks about is one that I sold to him years ago. I never could figure out why I did not have a problem
6-AJT---glad to see you are still a "fan"
7-Even though it has been a few years since I have bought an engine from Bill O, I am sure that I could call him tomorrow and he would remember me---- it is hard to put a price tag on that.

As was stated earlier, you will have to look long and hard to find a problem with their engine---expensive? Yes!
Worth it? Yes!

Thanks Andrew, it's great to be a part of the forums again. In a way, I was lost. :-) I wondered if you were still involved up here. Thanks for remembering the twins. I'll send you an e-mail then I can send a picture with your reply.

GM those other engines do have their place and following. And for some folks its tough to see another engine manufacturer come along a steal what they conclude as thunder. Some folks have a very small world they live in. Like one fellow said "he had never seen one before except the one at his field" Tells me that guy probably goes nowhere outside his own backyard.

Glen, if I had any doubts, your personal experience convinced me. I decided to order from Bill, and will be getting a 52. I may not have it in the air 'til spring, but I'm convinced his engines are the best deal for my application.

Thanks for the info and the phone call,
Jeff (Pilgrim)

FlyingPilgrim, good choice. I will echo what others have said on this thread. I don't think you will be disappointed with the quality or performance or service should you need it from Taurus. When you get it up and running you might want to post your comments. I'm sure we all would be interested.
happy flying.

Diablo RCU, I don't have a 22x8 Menz S yet so rather than wait on Gerhard. I ran the following
87oct,stihl 50:1,stock Taurus Pitts muffler I was tempted to not run any tests as this engine has about a quart thru it. But what better way to find out if it can take it.

22X8 NX (very nice prop) beefier than a Menz. 6975.
24X8 Menz S 6260
24X8 NX 6410
20X10 Zinger 3 blade with a thick front and back 6260
aluminum hub, total weight of blades and hubs added 12 oz.to the prop hub.
Now I realize these are not apples to apples because we use a stock Pitts muffler and not an exhaust deflector or using a 22X8 Menz S prop.I would guess at least a 200 rpm increase if I had one of those deflector gagets.
Hey how about swinging a three blade Zinger on your cantilever crank engine.
If I get a 22X8 Menz S I'll run it and post the numbers I get.

Repair service like that, a 6 day turn around is not to shabby. Did they do anything else like check out the engine and run it?

What problem did you have with the prop hub, Bolt strip? Turnaround service like you mentioned from Taurus, is the norm

Thanks Glenn,

those numbers are good. The motor looks good and they should last for a long time. On their web sight they give the motor a weight of 78onces, that must be motor only, even so that is respectable I think.

Are you using the muffler they supply, any idea what the bare motor weights. I think it would turn a 26-10 Menz standard around 6000 rpm.

Thanks....

Very nice P-51's G McIntosh. Man would that be a fun alternative to my aerobats.

I can't believe how much that field looks like my old field in Morgan Hill, CA. I miss the wide paved runway. Pretty much everything is grass here in Oregon.

Nice War Birds Glenn What plans did you build those from. Always wanted to try something like that, maybe one day.

Right now I am into 3D, and the likes, the Ultimate was my own design, 37%. The plans I just made for my 35% Extra 260. Wings, and tail finished, working on the fuse now

Excaliber, Let me preface this by saying that I like (and own) most every engine make on the market and some that arent. I think engines are just like everything else in life, it all depends on what a particular engines intended purpose is. Some were intended to wack weeds, some were intended to fly our aircraft, some were designed to saw our wood, I guess it's possibe to get one engine that will saw our firewood, then wack our weeds, and then fire it up and fly your airplane. Lets face it simply all boils down to the plain fact that a gas engine is a gas engine. Is a gas engine, and inside of one they all share basically the same parts installed in more or less the same manner. Of course there are many subtle differences in the way they were manufactured, and thats what keeps these threads hot today. Even though I think most of the readers of thes threads know which brands of engines I prefer, They'ed be supprised to know the actual number of different makes and brands of engines I own. and fly. I always have at least ten or more 33% or larger aerobatic airplanes that I fly, and each plane is equiped with a different engine. and I like them all equally, but I trust 1 brand above all others. At present I own a DA 100 twin, bought for my 37% Aeroworks "KATANA". Now I've decided to remove it and install the ALL new TAURUS,107 twin that Bill is sending me. This engine is hoping for a TOLEDO TRADE SHOW RELEASE. I own two BME 100 twins, two Taurus 3,2, I own a Zenoah G-62W/electronic ignition in a Giant Stinger, I Have a Quadra 42 in a Giant Aeromaster, great flying plane, I have two 3W8b2 twins one is a 3W78b2, I have a Zenoah G26. I mentioned these engines to show that i Just like engines. Period
