I purchased a used 3w 150QS and have a question. This is my first 3w so I hope this does not sound dumb, but here goes. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the reed cage and the crank case? Seems like there should be but never having one I'm not sure.[
] The one I purchased does not. Thank you in advance, Ronk1

You should have a metal spacer about .125 thick with gaskets on either side sandwiched between the crankcase and reed housing. If not then contact Bobby Wilson at (520)721-0087 and he'll fix you up.

Is there some place on the web that I can download a parts manual? In the photo's I don't see a 1/8" spacer against the aluminum case. I thank you for the reply, I don't understand why I can't see it.

Take it apart and see, if you haven't already. From what I remember it's a real thin gasket, if yours is missing you could use a little RTV on it. I do that even with the gasket so I don't get any air leaks.

Are you looking at the photo only? I think its there in the photo its just hard to differentiate from the adapter block. If its not there get one...
You should use an Anaerobic gasket sealer, or something that is impervious to fuel or solvents, Permatex offers a product. Silicones are not fuel resistant.

From: Gilbert, AZ,
Ronk, yours does not have the spacer. When I bought my QS150 in Nov. 02 from Cactus it didn't have the spacer either so I know that some motors have been sold without them. The motor will run fine without the spacer but the very ends of the reeds will get nibbled a little. I don't run one on my regular 150 and it runs fine. Garrett Morrison has stated that he feels the midrange is improved a bit without the spacer but I can't really tell. One thing is if for sure, make sure you have a gasket in between the case and reed assembly no matter what way you go. Oh and be VERY careful when you tighten the four bolts that hold the reed assembly on. The lower carb block cracks very easily. Basically I run them up till they are very lightly snugged and then using my forefinger and thumb on a tee-handle turn the bolts in till I can't tighten them anymore. Overtighten and you're out $50 so be careful.
