Default Reversing a Zenoah

Does anyone have any knowledge and/or experience with reversing the rotation on a Zenoah 23 or 26cc motor. I am referring to the motor itself not a gearbox. Thanks.

Easy to do with a CD ignition, just put the sensor in a position to fire on the other side of TDC..I did it with a 23 magneto engine, take the key out of the crankshaft and re position the mag rotor by trial and error and turn the source coil the other way in the mount....Won't work with an old points ignition G23....OR switch it to glow and start it up backwards..

I would like to counter-rotate one engine in my twin engine 73" Cigarette that I manufacture. I had counter-rotating Kanellos outdrives originally that took care of the problem, but they are not being made any more as far as I know. MHZ drives are an option, but they do not keep a counter-rotating drive in stock.

Hi,
It sounds like you are talking about a boat application. Is this the case. You may be able to flip the flywheel to get reverse rotation, depending on how it is keyed.

Can't flip a flywheel on a tapered shaft...
And the pull starter won't work backwards....

Hi Ralph,
It sounds like CDI with no pull start is the only way. Do high rpm boat props produce much torque? Is this needed?

Don't know about torque, they turn in the 14 to 16,000 rpm and above range...The speeds are now over 100 mph...Peak torque is at 9000, hp peak is at 12,000 for the boat/plane engine, 13,000 for the heli engine......
