Default starter spring problem?

Hi there,
I've asked this question on another thread.....I had no idea that US had its own support forum here.

I purchased a US35 a couple years back.

Ran it on the bench for a couple tanks and engine seized. Well the clutch bearings in the starter sleave did anyway, making a tangled mess of the spring.

Entire engine was replaced by LHS. (thanks guys). I would have taken the 41 they had in the shop at the time instead but it was shipped from factory with a couple broken mag fins. Took the seemingly good 35 still in stock.

Ran the new engine on bench for a couple tanks and the same thing happens! At this point I didn't feel right taking it back to the LHS so I ordered a new spring and clutch from them which cost me $85.00....!!!!...for a $400.00 (Canadian Dollars) engine. Anyway I had to get it because there's no way in hell these things can be started by hand.

Now the new spring when cranked doesn't have enough poop to push it through the compression.

What gives?? Are there different springs available?
I know the engine will run because it will start and run if a starter cord is wrapped around the propless hub and given a gentle pull.

So far I have an engine FOR 3 YEARS that has never been able to be mounted in a plane. The good news is I was forced to swich to 3W (awesome stuff) but the bad news is, I'd not have the heart to sell this US problem to someone else.

Any advice, fixes etc.
