Default Prop for Evolution 58 at altitude

I'm at 5000 ft. Would a MenzS 24x10 be ok for breaking in my Evolution 58? I want to do 3D with the airplane so should I maybe try a 24x8 instead?

Ben,

Don't go below a 24X10 with that engine. That's the minimum size prop you should run. From reading all the stuff from Dick Hanson on propping at altitude, it doesn't seem that you really make any changes because of the altitude....but if I were you (and if Dick doesn't post here) I'd PM him and ask.

Y N C made me think of something; you didn't mention what muffler you're running. I was assuming the MVVS 3204 can, but if you're running a pitts-style like Y N C, you may need to consider a smaller prop.

I would'nt go anything under 24x10. My motor is still in the breakin stage. I would like to try the BME 25x8 or 26x8 but i have clerance issue on my BME YAK.

I forgot that's what you had your 58 on....it must be a rocket.

Yes its a rocket. I'm thinkin this motor is more suited for a 19 to 21lb airplane.
The new Chip Hyde YAK would be the plane for this motor.

I agree completely. I had bought the 58 for my 87" KMP Yak, but changed in mid build to the MVVS 45 when I figured out what it was going to weigh with it....though I understand Ben trying one considering the altitude he's flying at. It would be a really difficult decision at that altitude.

I hadn't looked at the Chip Hyde Yak, but that does looks like it may be well suited to the 58. If you can keep it at the lower part of their stated weight range, closer to 19lbs, it should work very well with the 58. They seem to be promoting it for a 75-100 size engine(a assume targeted at the rumored DA 75), but it seems a bit small to me for those engines.....though with one of the old ZDZ-80's it should still be at the bottom of the weight range, and the performance would be incredible.

If weight is 19 to 21lbs as advertised by Chip. This motor will be enough. The plane won't be a rocket but it be compareable to a 16lb plane on a 50cc.

I think i'm going to try a 24x10 Mejzlik. Might pick up a MenzS 24x8 and try that to.
