Default G-62

Hi everyone, I have a 27% Ultimate Biplane with G-62 on it wondering what size prop to use for 3D flying.

What's a good ignition system to put on a g-62? I've heard CH, B&B....surely someone has tested them and has and answer?

Ralph makes an awesome ignition for the G-62.

If you have a cup mount--he can install the ignition right inside it. It's a nice, clean install and works perfectly.

I like to keep my G-62 engines up in the 7000RPM range. Even more is not a bad thing. You can run them at 8000RPM and you won't damage them.

I don't know if it will turn a 24-8 that fast, but you'll get plenty of thrust from that prop.

It won't, but it will pull a 40 lb seaplane off the water

Distonic....Not sure if you know but, Ralph is "RCIGN1. He is the first respondant to your question. He makes an ignition that is second to none. His ignition is a perfect compliment to your G62.

I have no kits, C&H has kits...
I make a new hub to fit the taper on the end of the crank, 2 inches diameter. A magnet is embedded into the back surface..The surface of this hub is milled when mounted on the crank so that it's EXACTLY 90 degrees to the crankshaft....The prop hub that attaches to that is turned down to match...A ball bearing ring is mounted to the back of the new hub with the Hall sensor epoxied into it..This ring is connected with a short 4-40 threaded rod to the new carb link for spark advance ..The carb is rotated on a new 3/8 thick G10 insulator block, straight connection to the throttle servo.....The source coil lugs are cut off the front case...The ignition circuit is mounted on a 1/16 plate behind the new mount, or in the B&B mount if that's what's on the engine already...
I have been having a problem with my circuits, so until the problem is resolved the circuit will be from C&H...
Price is $150 with mechanical advance or $185 with electronic...I have made the mechanical for 18 years with no problems, the bearing is a sealed 6202 alternator type bearing that should outlast the rest of the engine, if that ever wears out
Guarantee on the circuit and mount is lifetime, crash damage included...In 18 years there has been exactly ONE of my mounts bent in a crash...Guaranteed to tear the firewall off anything it's mounted on in a crash
This is done one engine at a time on manual machines in my shop, a GARAGE 10 feet from the house.
You want CNC, you won't find it here

Ralph,

Sounds good to me. I would like to get in touch with you via phone. I'll try to call you if that is ok with you.
My main objective is to get this baby running top notch and idle slow and smoothly without the fear of dieing on me while landing. I had it die on me a few times while sitting on the edge of the runway while waiting for my turn to taxi out for take off.

i have a question. Is a g62 a good choice for a 27% ultimate. I have an aeroworks and they told me that engine was too heavy. Anybody have any thoughts on that.
thank you

What kind of flying are you planning to do? I've heard the same thing from many concerning the G62 and I use them anyway especially the RC IGNITION converted G62 which is a bit lighter.

My new conversion of the G62 weighs only 4 lbs and has syncro spark electronic advance..Pretty hard to get much lighter without making it too weak somewhere...I can make the prop hub a little lighter, might try one this week...It be UNDER 4 lbs including ignition, which is as always, inside the mount...
An engine under 4 lbs with 26-28 lbs thrust can't be too much of a problem...

i plan to do mostly aerobatics and maybe experiment with some 3-d. How much would one of these ignitions cost. I am a machinist thought maybe i could make prop hub out of titanium?

Here ya go, a picture is worth a thousand words...The hub is 2 parts held together by 4 grade 8 10-32 allen bolts, the prop bolt is grade 8 3/8-24...
You can get a syncro spark ignition from C&H I make ignitions but don't sell mine separately right now..

A couple of shots of another of Ralph's G62's mounted on a Wildhare Extra. Hope you don't mind the pictures Ralph. [8D] I think you have changed the design of your hub since this one was made.

The new hub goes with the electronic advance and is part of the weight reduction...I also make the mount smaller on the new ones for a little less weight....

Takes a 4.8V 500 MA battery for about 2 hours run time...

what do you think about a g62 with your conversion on an 27% ultimate. As i mentioned before Aeroworks told me that is was too heavy and I should use consider a g45 instead.
That suprised me since they sell da's.

I think a converted G62 is lighter than a stock G45....4 lbs for the G62, an ounce or two for the battery...If a G45 will fly it a G62 will make it way better....
Haven't made a lite G45, don't know what it weighs..

My beautiful gracious wife was very kind to me this Xmas. She bought me a Ralph Cunningham converted G62 for my present this year. I must say that I am very pleased with this gift because Ralph does an outstanding job on his conversions. I have been flying RC aircraft since about 1970 but this will be my first gasser. I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions before I made my choice of the G62. I am sure that there are a number of other great gas engines out there. However, all of the people that I know who have been is this hobby for any length of time all say that you just can't go wrong by getting one of Ralph's engines. I ordered a World Models 50cc Katana for my engine. I'm sure that this will be a great combination. Merry Christmas, Happy NewYear and Happy Holidays to all.

A few Questions for RCIGN1....
Do you make ingnitions for engines 150 cc or a little bigger? Do these igninitions self start the engine with a button on the transmitter, or how do they work?
Thanks
