Default Engine choice, plz help?

Hi!

I'm about to start building a GP CAP 1/3 Matt chappman. Since this model needs a lots of modifications to house canisters, I will build it stock and go for pitts style mufflers. My question is which engine I should buy considering that pitts style mufflers will be my only option? I've been looking at 3W 106, DA100, ZDZ100NG or a MVVS116. Which of these engines are happiest when using a very restrictive muffler? Do they all have the same bolt pattern for the exhaust? I haven't been able to find any pitts style muffler at all for the MVVS116?

Every engine you have listed are good engines and will fill your needs on this plane. You will be happy with any of them. We have three at our field, one with a 3W 120, one with a ZDZ-100, one with a 3W-100. All fly great. No none of them have the same exhaust bolt pattern. I know nothing about the MVVS 116. Good luck, By the way, the GP-MC Cap flyes like a 15 pound plane on steriods. It is one nice, well built great flying plane.

Vismund.....Having had some experience with all of the engines you named, my personal choice for an engine for your 33% project would be the "DA" 100. This is an excellent running, powerful, user friendly engine, with an excellent record, and support system.

DA and ZDZ do have same bolt patterns -on the 100's
If you are really power hungry tho--go for the new MVVS
or stick tuned pipes on the ZDZ100

hi dick!

I wish this model would allow tuned pipes, without serious surgery, but it's not.
How about the comparison between these engines on pitts style mufflers? Is anyone more forgiving to restricted exhausts?

And I would really appericiate if anyone can tell me if there are pitts style mufflers available for the MVVS116? And who makes them?

Vismund----I would probably make the choice on the who sells and services X brand in Sweden.

Now that being said, I feel you have missed out on one of the top performing engines on the market that will save you 2 lbs (about 1 kilo) of weight, and those plane are not exactly light. My choice would be the BME 110, on stock mufflers I don't think any of the engines you mentioned are stronger. The exception may be the 116, but I have no knowledge of it and I believe it is heavier.

My vote for the 3w 106 or mvvs 116, but I dont think anyone makes stock mufflers for it. FYI, my 106 on stock mufflers unloaded a mejzlik 28x10 to 7900 in the air (3w inflight tach)

When you are saying "stock mufflers", I assume that that these are of pitts style type?.

RTK: The reason why I haven't included BME in my list i exactly the one stated in the beginning of your text. Which means that BME doesn't have any distributer in Sweden.

Another thing that is nice about the engine is that it is so compact. It will fit in almost any cowl without having to cut it up. Here's a picture
