Have the SA gear in my GS P-47. Mains work perfectly, but the TW is the problem......It retracts fine, but the steering rod binds and stalls the servo. Since it has only one air line, the Robart unit is out....I have tried vainly to get it to operate properly.., and have just been flying it extended... Hopefully, someone has found a solution to the steering problem on the Spring Air Tail Wheel and will share it with me

Probably get more responses in the warbirds forum.
I'm using SA gear for the mains also. Didnt like the SA tail wheel so went with robart. I just use a robart valve on the other side of the servo arm. I'm not at that point yet in construction so I havent actually implemented it yet. Not sure if I can do it with one tank. Dont see why not.

Thank you for the response. I understand your theory......since I had to make a new former to mount the SA TW, major surgery would be required to adapt the Robart..I did try springs on both sides of the servo arm, but this did not hold the TW solid enough to steer...If I do get a helpful suggestion, I will FWD it to you....

How about pull-pull wires? SA sells a bell crank that I've used before. I had a similar problem on a Wing P-38 nose gear. Even with the short linkage it would bind on the stearing post. I fixed that with alignment fine tuning. I dont suppose thats possible in your case. I would be leary of any kind of lub since that is a dirty kind of environment. Fishing weights could lead the pull-pull wires to the tail section. I use 40lb plastic coated steel fishing leader wire.
