Default Choosing engine

Hi all,

So I'm yet another that is converting to gas and so I'm a newbie... I am getting the SIG Sukhoi and I was going to get the First Place Engine 2.4. When I mentioned it to someone at my field, they said FPE's are too heavy for their weight. He suggested the ZDZ 40Rv. I just checked and the FPE weighs 52 OZ with the muffler and cranks out 3.3 HP. The ZDZ weighs 50.4 but I think that is without the muffler (could someone verify?) and cranks out 4 HP. I am not planning on hovering or anything like that, just simple aerobatics and I don't need an overpowered plane. I guess I would prefer a lighter plane that is adequately powered. Are there any other suggestions for a motor and could people give me their 2 cents worth on the choices I have mentioned? Also, it seems logical that an engine tuned for more HP will not last as long. Is this also something to consider?

Thanks for the help.

The point is..."too heavy for their weight".

I repeat, huh?

I would put a 50 in that plane, but I don't see that the FPE's are heavy at all. Would have bought one if I could have found one used when I was shopping for an engine.

Some guy has a 4.2 in the market place with 2 props for 375 bucks! A little big though. But a good price!

Ok, I'm sorry. I meant too heavy for their power. I must be pretty excited about this plane!!

Go and talk to Scott at www.brielli.com. He has a 42cc w/ei for $300.00 that will fly that plane very nicely, he also has a 46cc w/ei that weigh's the same as the 42cc for $340.00. His 46cc with magneto cost only $240.00 and puts out almost 30lbs thrust. Even with the magneto the 46cc in only 4lbs 6oz. I have three of his engines and all three are very good engines. The craftsmanship is superb and the power of these engine is every bit as good as those higher end models. Scott will also give you the best customer support you will every get from anyone.
