What sealant to use on leaking 3W carb blocks
Hi guys,I have a friend with a 3W 75ius that seems to be leaking fuel from the base of the carb reed block. It may also be leaking between the carb and the block...I know there has been much discussion on this and I've looked but can't seem to find it....
Can anyone help
Thanks Jack

Remove the phenolic block from the carb and the motor. Use some sandpaper on a flat surface (glass, etc.) and sand the mating surface until it is flat again (it is probably warped). Then re-attach it and do not torque it down too tight. Also, make sure from this point on that the engine is not running too hot or it may warp again. Use proper baffling in the cowl and do not run the engine lean.

If the surface is flat enough I like Loc-tite 518. If there is a large gap to fill then Permatex Ultra Copper is easy to find and somewhat gasoline proof. Fuel tank sealant used on Jet aircraft is is the very best rubberized sealant available, its just more difficult to find and a little expensive.

I will second Ralph on that one. That is similar to what I use. You can use most any automotive grade gasket sealer, just make sure its gasoline resistant. I like the plain black high temp permatex. Its easy to clean up too.
