I just ordered a Carden Cuda and am looking for an engine. It is designed for the DA 50. Is that the way to go? I am looking for reliability and ease of use not the most power. I have heard good comments about the DA 50, but some folks seems to have issues. I guess my second pick would be 3W.
Any input would be appreciated, getting into gaint scale is expensive and I want to do it right the first time.

You might want to do a search on the DA 50. There seems to be a lot of trouble with them.

I am one of the people that is having alittle trouble, however I think the stereotype is that alot of people are having trouble with the DA50 however, I believe it is all proportional, by that I mean if there are 10 people who have trouble with there 3W and 30 people that have trouble with there DA it is the same , 3W sold 100 engines and DA sold 300 engines, do you understand what I mean ,,

I do see your point jongurley. I was just referring to what I read in the post here and there seems to be a number of people having trouble with the DA 50. I run Brillelli gas engines and am having a little trouble myself but not due to the engine, just my lack of experence tweaking a gas engine.

I have a GSP Giles 202 140 size with a Brillelli 25cc GT with EI running an APC 17X6 prop. This is my first gasser and I just maidend it yesterday. This engine has a ton of power to pull a 12 lbs plane around with authority but I just can't seem to get the low end set on the carb. I keep having dead stick landings due to the engine shutting down when I pull back to idle. Just need to learn how to tweak a gasser

I have had a DA 50 for about a year......I fly at least 2 -3 times a week and have only had one dead stick........I hit the choke switch.
My DA is easy to start, when its cold.....choke, flip until it burbs.....choke off and she almost always starts on the 5th flip. After the first flight of the day she will start on the first flip.
I love my DA......it was a good choice for my first Gas Engine.

Loved the first one so I got my second DA 50R put it in a Wild Hare Edge 540T the motor started right up (ignition on choke on flip till it pops, choke off flip 5 to 6 times started right up) carb was adjusted kinda rich leaned the high speed and the low speed needles 1/16 turn.
Still rich but that is OK for a few flights to begin breaking it in.
After the first run it will start on the first or second flip.
IMHP it is a great little engine and DA standes behind their product 100%
I am watching you

Good choice..just keep one thing in mind and you will be fine..these are not glow engines and you tune them a little different..the low needle is the most important..

I know the DA 50 is a great engine and runs very strong, but there are some other engines that are out there that will do the job and you can save quite a bit of money. I run Brillelli engines right know and I to had some trouble at first with them. But once again it was me and not the engine. Scott and Mark at Brillelli give the best customer service I have ever seen and their engines are first rate. I have a little 25GT engine I got from them and it spins a APC 18x8 sport prop and 8000RPM. Almost unheard of for an engine of that size.
Brillelli is just about to release a new 54cc and 60cc engine special built for RC planes. Scott well be testing these engines this week and he is sure they will be very close to weight and power of a DA-50 and at a much lower cost. I am already sold on one of these engines just because of the customer support I got after the sale of my first engine. That is way I bought another 25GT engine from Brillelli. Zippi is right these engines rock for the price.
I am building a 80" Cap 232 that I plan on installing a Brillelli 54cc engine in when it is released.
