Default ch ignition problem

I have a ch ignition unit that has a problem , I know it can be sent back to ch for a possible repair but was wondering if mabe someone has seen this before, when the battery is conected the unit will send one spark to the plug,,then thats it, never sparks again even when the prop is spun, it will spark without the pickup conected , checked all conectors and they seem good ?????thanks

Take the plug out and make sure it is grounded. Turn the ignition on. You may get spark. Now turn the engine over so the magnet passes the sensor. After the magnet passes there should be spark. If not the sensor is bad. You have to have the system grounded. Otherwise you will blow the sensor.

If you're only getting one spark and that's when the unit is turned on then the Hall sensor has gone south on you. Send it back for repair. If you remove the plug to check the spark, do exactly as Tim stated above. Not grounding the plug on the engine and turning the engine to check spark takes out the ignition every time.

Before you pack it up and return it call CH and see if they want the engine to come with it. They often do.

Better to send it back. If there is a warranty there won't be after the sensor has been removed. It's the Hall sensor.

I don't bother too much with the FG engine forums now. Two individuals think they own the place and become pretty ticked if you disagree with them about anything, especially if BME is mentioned. You named one of them. I'll go read it though. The same name came up in conversation yesterday with somebody else.

Shoot, it's so bad that one of them threatened to have a whole thread removed ( like he really had the power) when he was offered info that could make things a little better.

I spoke with RTK this morning about his first flights with the 115. He's feeling like a kid that just lost his virginity
