I had a suzuki 500 twin 2cycle road bike and kawasaki 650 twin 2stroke both had a short connecting pipe between headers near where they exited engine. was this to add more power, comply with emisions, noise reduction? I notice they have a 2 into 1 setup for mvvs 116 is this to add power, save weight? Dick needs to test a 2 into 1 or 2 into 2 with headers connected - calling dick, come in dick, over

called an H pipe - or an X pipe - on cars used to take the bark out of the exhaust and depending on which snake oil exhaust sales guy you talk to -a power enhancher-- My 65 Nova with warmed over 327 needed em to hold down the noise my 350 truck did not - no two into one setups for me- I have two of em in a box wanna take em? good for 100cc and 160cc.

The 2-in-one is born out of necessity, not because of power considerations. Unlike 4-stroke engines, two strokes run best with each their own exhaust system.
BTW, I never have seen balancing pipes on two strokes. Four strokes, yes.

On a two stroke, two cylinder boxer engine, both cylinders fire at the same time, so in theory you could join the headers into one muffler without losing power. But, you need the same exhaust pipe and muffler volume as in two pipes and two mufflers. The single muffler might be lighter.

which is the exact reason we made this contraption. It is not sure how the shockwaves will influence each other at or near the branch though. One would need a dyno for that.

I have same setups - JMB - the real problem is that there is no place in the model for the huge can--
so they sit waiting for some possible(?) future project

Have you run the setup? I am interested in info on both cylinder EGT (or pipe heat coloring) and balance, because the headers are not exactly of equal length.

I would like to try this engine but what plane do you recommend? I prefer composite, don't want spark plugs sticking out of cowel, seems it is too big for most 33% stuff but too small for 40%ers? thanks ray

pizza,
Seems to me a Composite-ARF MX2 would be perfect for that engine (MVVS116). The MX2 can be flown with anything from a 100cc - 180cc. I have a DA150 in mine, and it's a nice flying plane.
