RE: G-20EI
I'm in the process of installing the Zen 20 in my H9 Hellcat. It's my first gas engine. The engine is now mounted and i'm following the RCU review and the magazine review for ideas & tips.

I can't understand what is taking him so long to bless us with his great wealth of knowledge and tactful comments.
By the way, I have decided from now own I am only going to buy planes that are rated for G-20s. Everytime I can afford a new one I am going to buy it. I am going to be the biggest idiot in the whole world!

I most likely won't be flying the Hellcat until spring. The weather in the Pacific Northwest is not all that great in the winter (rain, wind, snow & dark at 4pm). Oh yea.......did i mention rain? [sm=drowning.gif]

RE: G-20EI
I just converted my G20 to CH ignition and have bench run it , but I will wait until I flight test it using an 1100 mah battery before passing any judgment, the Zenoah ignition is junk but it still works fine as long as you keep the battery charged, I think we all should "e" mail Zenoah in Japan and ask if they are going to make some changes-------------- any thoughts on this ??? I know how to get past Horizon Hobby and into the Zenoah Japan web site, I even have a contact person in Japan

Since it's your first gas engine use the time to learn how it works as gas motors are quite different from glow, and while you are at it, closely monitor the condition of your ignition battery.
It has been reported that the ignition system is quite power hungry, and will deplete it's battery pack fairly quickly as compared to other systems.
As TKG suggested do a search for magazine reviews or do one right here on this forum to see comments from folks that are using this fine little motor.

For now i won't mind if i have to charge the ignition battery between flights (or two). I always bring more than one airplane to the flying field so i've always got something to fly. And if your club is like the one i go too, you fly once shoot the breeze with other pilots for awhile and then fly again. [sm=wink_smile.gif]

Though I can't reveal in specific details of my source, but indication from Zenoah Jpn seems to stand by their position that their current ignition unit design is good and meet what they wanted to push for the market. I did highlight thats its power hungry and overbuilt ie overweight but they seems adamant on it.
I can say that though it looks so robust, it wasn't that so when I lost my plane a month ago with G20 on board. The engine survived, but ignition seems abit off. I tested with my buddy G20 ignition unit and it started easily. Its just too rigid that in any hard knock, I wonder if its does any good.
My prop shaft looks good and no significant vibration (sign of bent or damage). But when I look at the magnetic housing ring (the metal disc that spin in front of the hall sensor) seems a tad bend. Ie when I rotate the crank slowly I can see that at some turn the disc is closing to the hall sensor.....
The ignition unit will spark the plug outside the engine but somehow it leaks when plug is mounted/screwed in. So I must have a leak somewhere.
Having said that, G20 is ain't no dog. Anyone say so is just plain blind. The power on this small gasser is amazing. I able to spin APC 16x8 about 8400 and 16x6 close to 9k! 15x6 is just overkill at 9300. So I say 17x6 will prolly nice at low 8ks.

Zenoah's EI module is a little brick but based on Zenoah's reputation for durable engines, the little brick fits their theme.

RE: G-20EI
I have a conversion engine for sale in the classified. Its about the same size as the G20 and costs about $200 less. It has been professionally converted by Carr Precision from an industrial engine. The G20 is professionally converted by Zenoah from some industrial engine.
With my engine you don't have to pay for a dog of an ignition and then throw it away

RE: G-20EI
The Zenoah 20 EI is a HORRIBLE engine.
You can figure 44 ounces for the Zenoah G20 EI and 10 pounds thrust
The RCIGN Zenoah G26 weighs basically the SAME at 46 ounces, but produces 17 pounds thrust
The ignition system on the Zenoah 20 EI uses a LOT of current, which means your battery is dead after only a few flights.
The RCIGN Zenoah 26 will fly all day on a charge, has 70 % more power, all for the SAME weight.
This one is a no brainer.

TELEJOJO don't listen to Jettpilot, he is an idiot. He has made it his mission in life to put the G-20 down at every possible opportunity and has gone as far as to call anyone who has one stupid. Sorry but he will try to to take over this thread to campaign against the G-20 and anyone who wants or has one. He tried to start a thread putting down the engine and it was shut down immediately so just don't pay any attention to him. We are trying to get him banned.
Here are links so you can see his trash. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_50...tm.htm#5069656

I hope this has enlightened you. Go get your G-20 any enjoy it!

The engine is made to withstand abuse from idiots. It came from a weedeater.
I am sure Carr would stand behind the parts they supplied. I seriously doubt you would have any trouble with them.
