ZDZ 80. How heavy a plane can it hover?
Just got a new comp-arf2.6m extra 260 and put a zdz 80 in it and am having to add a bit of weight to get the c/g right on. Got me thinking. I hope my engine will fly this thing ok. So, How heavy of a plane will a zdz80 hover? Fly 3D in general? Mine's going to come in about 25 1/2 lbs.
Thanks in advance

Should hover that ok, it also depends on what kind of exhaust system you have on it. It would be better if it were a a pound or two lighter you would get faster vertical acceleration.

Hmm...
RC Showcase's website seems to indicate that you're going to be underpowered for 3D stuff which would include hovering;
http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/chart.html
Other than that, it's hard for me to say since we're at 4500' ASL and what works at SL or close to it won't cut the mustard up here. Up here an 80 on a 25 1/2 lb. model here MIGHT hover but you wouldn't get a vertical pullout...
I've got a couple of friends who run 80's and they work great at 20 lbs. or so, and one does okay at 22 lbs but his vertical pullout is really limited. One of the others has his on a pipe in a 20 1/2 lb. model and it is quite spectacular...
edit info;
On looking back at your post, you don't say if it's the Super 80 or the regular RV so the above applies to the 80 RV. We've got several people who have the 80 RVJ's but the only one I've seen is Dick Hanson's and it's a rocket at 21 1/2 pounds.

Well I can tell you my buddy has an Extra that weighs 22 pounds with the rv-j on a pitts muffler. It's getting lower rpms then some are saying it should(about 6400 with a PT models 26x10) and it hovers that 22 pounds at 1/4 throttle with great pull out.

I have a 2.6 with the ignition mounted on the outside of the motor dome and an RX battery mounted on the inside, which is actually closer than yours. Range check with engine on and off perfect. Fifty or so flights with no problems, CH ignition.
Power wise, I am guessing it should be OK, but that all depends on peoples definition of power.

I had an old H9 Extra that weighed 27 lbs. My old 80 with supersonic muffler and menz 26 x 10 would pull it out from hover but slowly.
