Hi all,
I'm hoping I'm missing something simple, I've put a BME 90 gasser conversion in my Raptor 60 helicopter. The first problem was it didn't start, that was because of the timing slipped. Then I had some major interference, a bunch of ferrite beads helped that. Yesterday, I ran the motor choked, and when I removed the choke it ran for a 2nd and died. I restarted and same thing, and then it wouldn't start at all. I unpluged the ignition box, in case it timed out and needed reseting but no go.

The first thing I thought was the timing slipped too, I had made markes (little marker dots anyway) where the timing was and it didn't seem to have moved. Today I loosened the set screw for the timing and moved it a very small amount and tried starting it well over 2 dozen times with no luck. [&o]

Check for fuel in the line and carb should be wet when choking. Check for intake leak. RechecK timing for TDC on piston and manufactures degrees btdc. Check spark works consistently. After all that send it in for repair or replacement. My big twin was doing the same thing. Had intake leake. Also slipped timing. If ingition is good and has intake leak it could do what your saying when it was running. If timing slipped just beyond range of magnet it will not start but pop on choke then pop on choke off but not run. I fought mine for couple weeks got it repaired and running the after four flights same situation. [&o] Sent in for repair and now have time for my arm/shoulder to heal.[&:]

Thank goodness I don't have a pull start on it. I've been using a cordless drill with the hex adapter for my heli to get it started. The standard starters just don't do it. How do you check it for constant spark? My engine is pretty much totally inclosed, and in order to get the plug out I have to remove the engine. If there is not an easy way, I guess I'll mount it back on a test stand and rework from there. This has been a bugger of a project, I'm suprised the timing would be able to be moved around so easily with that set screw on there. Perhaps it back fired and moved it.
There did seem to be plenty of fuel running though the line into the carb, and after so much cranking it smelled like gas everywhere.

Wow, took out the BME motor, to put in a standard OS70 so I could get a couple flights this year, I needed to change the gearing and found all the new bearings I put in the clutch and starter shaft trashed. Something wasn't right somewhere. I didn't even hover the thing, so perhaps I misaligned something.
