Default Evolution 58GX good or bad

Guy's i am looking for field reports for this engine.it's been out long enough to see how it holds up.don't want to start any fires just let me know if you like it or hate it.and what kind of problems you have with it if any. i know the power it makes is great just need to know if you can depend on it.i am looking at one NIB for 400.00 that is what caught my eye.
Thanks for any help
ENJOY!

Check the ignition and see if it requires a lipo battery. The newer ones do i think. That may be an added expense you may not have counted on. I switched to DA's and won't go back.

Evolution 58GX does not need Lithium batteries, and it is GOOD.

Closetguy,
Buy it. It is state of the art, same as MVVS 58. If you don't like it, you can easily sell it for more thewn you paid for it. This is a no brainer at $400.

Its the MVVS 58 Pro that requires over 11volts, the standard 58 requires 7.2 volts on the new auto choke ingnition, my MVVS 58 Pro is a peach and I love it, would not go anywhere else.

Mike i knew you had one,and loved it.it's just like anything else sometimes you get a lemon like (Greyhound Man) did, just trying to find out if there are more bad than good ones. also did not know about the different voltage for ignition, just knew you had to keep it above 6.2 volts or run a 6 cell pack.
ENJOY!

My ignition failed "out-of-the-box", but following its replaceent I find the 58 to work very well. It starts easily, and pulls my toy around the sky until I activate the kill switch at the end of the flight. I really new to petrol engines so I'm certainly no expert, but my 58 operates simularly to my DA-50... just a little bit more powerful.

Fly safe, Glover

Glover,i had a filling that something was going on with the ignition, every time i look a Horizon Hobby they are out of the igniton systems and back orderd most of the time.i also have two da50's with one the ignition is bad now.the plane i am thinking about using the 58 in is 17-18 lbs. that elemenates the da50 for me.
ENJOY!

electronic ignitions just don't cut it two ways.
For ultra reliability and longevity, use a CDI flywheel system, and pay the weight price.
For lightness, use the modern CDI ignitions, and accept the shortcomings. They are not brand limited. I experienced failures in ZDZ ignitions as well as several other brands, including Webra, MVVS etc.
Ralph should chime in here, but he takes a sabattical.[]

Closetguy, Your DA will handle 18 pounds no problem. The draw back of any of these ignition systems is price of replacement. A friend of mine just bought a DA ignition for $140.00, the Evo. is a good bit higher. If you get one with a bad ignition the savings would be gone, and you will have even more in it.

Yep,on my first da it went out cost me 129.00 from da.sure makes you wonder if you could use one of the many after market ignitions for around 50.00.but it is just a bolt on operation with the correct unit.
ENJOY!

I have 4 flights on my 58 and it pulls a twenty pound plane with authority....
Really like the automatic choke feature too. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

well thanks guy's i heard enough,i guess i am going to pull the trigger on this one.no one realy has any bad reports about the 58.and when something is bad it seems like people come out of the woodwork to let everybody know about it.i have made bad investments before and sure i will again before it's all over.i need a engine that will pull the covering off out of a hover on a 18lb. plane and a 50 just aint going to do it.
ENJOY!

Typically ignitions fail due to a failure of the internal coil. Some are definately better that others in component quality, as evidenced by the manufacturers selected by the UAV community. The two hottest sellers in that market are CH and DA.

just a up date on the 58gx,put two 20oz. tanks of fuel through the engine on the ground, first one was at a rich setting and never went past 4000 rpms.secound one started to lean out just enough to get rid of lot of the burble, still had just a little. when at the last of the secound tank i did a WOT for just long enough to get a tach reading of 7340 on a Biela 24-8 carbon and that is with a ES carbon pipe and a DIY header kit. have not tried to properly tune the system yet.engine has a very slight lag a dead idle to WOT,might be able to tune that out either on carb or header length. but first empressions are that this engine is a BEAST with POWER! got a 26-8 Biela for it after break in and get down in the engines tourqe range. now if this engine just last a while.
have not flown the EF Yak yet due to weather, but at 17-1/2 lbs. and a 26-8 prop i will bet it won't want to land,i hope i don't have trouble with the 24-8.
ENJOY!
