I think they recommend the 22A or 22B....however if you want a bit more load on the engine and less revs, the 23A should be ok. I would think if its your first prop on the engine, the 22A would be better. If you have burned some fuel and have the DA50 well dialed in, the 23A might be a better choice.
I have not purchased a Vess yet, but I have talked with the factory on several calls and thats what they told me asking pretty much the same questions. They actually seem to encourage the B props first, but I think if you want 3d the A is going to be a better choice.

This one is right up my alley....
I fly a modified Wild Hare edge and have been steadily dailing it in over the last few months, the model weighs 17 lbs. My DA 50 to date has performed best on either a MenzS 22 x 8 or an NX 22 x 8 which are virtually identical in performance. I tried a MenzS 24 x 8 and an NX 23 x 8, again virtually the same prop, and wasn't impressed with the vertical as the RPM's were down on both and on a heavier model it makes a big difference.
After sitting on the fence all summer I decided to give the Vess a try and ordered the 23A after consulting with DA about what most guys were using. Needless to say I was not impressed with the performance as there was a noticeable lack of thrust, most likely due to the very low pitch this prophas, I didn't tach it but I'm pretty sure it was down on RPM as well when compared with the 22 inch props I had been flying. Needless to say this one came off in a hurry and is now collecting dust on my shelf.
Next up was a VESS 22B and while I can say I didn't have high hopes I usually don't throw in the towel as fast as some others do....
THIS IS THE PROP for this engine in a 17 lb plane, a night and day difference over ALL of the others I have flown on this model. The pull out from a hover had MUCH greater authority that with any of the other props tried previous on my plane.
My advice is to go straight to the 22B and only try the 23A if your plane is in the 15-16 lb. range.

I switched to the Vess 23B for IMAC on my Yak 54. Perfect. Previously had the 23A and 22B. Motor is the 53cc 3MM TOC. The 23B gives the perfect blend of pull and braking. The 23A was too slow and the 22B was too fast. My motor tachs at 6900 rpm on the ground with the 23B.

Thanks for replies. The DA 50 is well run in. The only 2 props I’ve used on this engine are the Bolly 22x8 and 23x8 on the 17.5 lb WH Extra.
The 23x8 Bolly seems to be just ever slightly too much load. So I’m looking for something in the middle of the 2 mentioned. The prop will soon be transferred to a newer version SD-Models 50cc Yak. I’m hoping the Yak will weight in no more that 16.5 lbs.

Scott from Brillelli is supposed to flight test a 22A on the 366gt---Ive been using the 23A and like it the best out of the ones Ive tried--7100 R's but it is slow out of a hover--it pulls VERY steady though--Since I fly mostly 3D--the 23A give awesome low speed thrust
Hey Scott! (Shogun) Good to hear from ya!

You should know that Vess has some new props out, at least I believe them to be available at this time, and they are thinner in design than his current props. I heard that Quique flew his turbine powered Yak on one several weeks ago and he was very impressed. You might want to call Vess-Aero and find out. Let us all know if they are out and available.

Hey Joe!
I'm not sure I really want to pony up anoher $40 for another Vess, the 22B simply works too good so I.m gonna stick with it for now.
If anyone want's a 23A that's been drilled for a DA 50 and balanced at a reasonable price shoot me a PM.

Can you let me know what you find out. I have been wanting to try the Vess....I was thinking the 23A as well but I'm really interested in better spool up.... I guess your not seeing that. I'm getting about 7000 currently with my Xoar 23x8....it works good and I'm pretty sure that it is better for 3d compared to a lot of other choices but I would like to find the best combination. I started thinking as well at the 22A instead after Scott suggested that more revs seem to make things more responsive.

If you are getting 7k with a Xoar then using a Vess 23A your r's will go up probably by 2 or 300. I really can't see needing to go down to a 22A and putting it in the high 7ks.
Vess props are good for 3D but loud as heck for anything else. Using a 22A on the B 60 is just going to ripp that prop all day long. I use a Vess on my 3W-85 for 3D but for IMAC I have to swap it out.. the Xoar is loud enough, move to the Vess and it's twice as loud.

ya I knew it would climb from a Xoar.. I see 500 rpm diff on my 85. Thats some damn good numbers on the 60. 22A is was too small then for sure. The pull out on my Cap with a 23x8 Xoar (17 pounds) was decent.. with a Vess at those numbers it would be a night and day difference.

I just tried a 22B and 23B on my B60. rpm on the ground was about 22B - 6900 and 23B - 6400.
In the air I really didn't care for the 22B. Nothing specific, just didn't care for the way the plane flew.
But I really liked the 23B. I fly IMAC/Sport and the 23B had decent speed, good downline braking and very good pull in loops etc.

I like the 23A the best so far on my EF Yak/366GT--Im getting 7100 with the STOCK muffler--more than enough power
Yes it doesn't jump out of a hover but it does pull very well and steady--For slow 3D stuff its the best---makes harriers and rollers very steady and it really throws a lot of air over the surfaces at slow speed..the 23B is pretty close--so close that if I switched between the 2 I don't have to change the needles at all...

A couple of people have told me that the Vess Props have a tendency to explode and fail in flight. Anybody had or know of this problem?
