I am installing a DA 100 engine in a Great Planes Cap 580. I purchased a Great Planes kill switch as pictured in the instruction manual. The kill switch only has a red and black lead coming off the switch and I can't figure out how to hook it into the ignition unit and the battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim Corry.

Hi
Whay kind of switch do you have mecanical on-off or electronic? Most flyers use a standard heavy duty receiver switch harness to turn the ignition on-off and charge the battery. A separate electronic switch operated via a spare receiver channel is used as a secondary method of stopping the engine for saftey purposes. It is connected in series with the + battery lead to the ignition box.

I just hate it when someone asks for help with a particular problem and gets showered with answers not related to his / her situation. The poster asked a specific question on how to connect the switch he HAS, not what he should use. If you don't have the answer to the question, then don't muddy the water.
Sure hope I did not ruffle any feathers as that was not my intention.

The Great Planes kill switch is just a mechanical switch and requires a seperate servo. It operates by completing the connection from the battery wire to the module. The idea is that a servo arm presses down on the switch and as long as its pressed down the contact is made and you will have power to the module.
I have used this switch for smoke pumps to turn the pump on and off. I would not use this switch on a 100 cc DA motor. As John has said a lot of us use an electronic switch. I use RCATS switches. Cost is only $29.95

To use the GP switch you need to make a wiring harness. Start with the charge jack switch use 1 red one black through the switch. Solder the red to the red of the ignition switch. The black out of the ignition switch goes to a connector that will plug into your battery Red + wire. The plug connecting the battery Black - goes to Ignition Red + (use another connector here) (preferably servo wires cut to size and opposite direction of battery connection to avoid reversing polarity. Now you run the Black from the Battery connector back to the charge jack swtich to complete the loop. Splice a connector to the battery lead for connecting to the charge jack for isolated battery charging.
Any component can be installed in any order as long as you finish with a loop with + always pointing to the red wire of the jack switch and the reverse for -.
Use HD servo wires and connectors and Deans silver solder for ease of use and shrink tube to insulate your connections.

Dear Altavillan, Thank you for your response. Of all the responses I got, yours was right on the button. Due to the fact that I'm an eletronic moron, some of your info was not clear to me. I will describe my ignition components to you and I will send you a check for 20.00 if you would send me a diagram showing the connections so I can follow a picture. The DA ignition has the spark plug wires coming out of the box, it has a red and black lead coming out for the battery connection, and a red lead for the sensor connection. The GP switch harness has a switch box with a single on-off switch with red and black wires coming off of it, and they can be connected to whatever needed. The other red and black wires leaving the switch are connected to the kill switch, which is activated by a servo. I need to supply my own charging receptacle, which will be fuselage mounted. Where do I ground all of this stuff? I know your reply had all of this info, but I sure would appreciate a drawing. If I owned DA engines, I would supply my own switches and would not leave so much to the imagination. Is this GP ignition good enough quality to use in this situation ? I will certainly use thick wiring. My address is Jim Corry 90 Kentucky Ave. Lynn Haven, Florida 32444. Phone cell number is 850-832-2135. I promise to send you the check, and I promise it will not bounce. Thanks, Jim

dear altavillan, I don't know if you received my note from a few minutes ago, but my office manager shredded my diagram from you before I could get it. If you have a copy of it, please fax it to 850 784 1948 to the attention of Jim Corry. Include an address so I can now send you that check, especially after the extra trouble I have put you through. Thanks, Jim
