The other day I purchased a Master Torque 42cc engine from rcextremepower.com. The price was a big selling point at $289. After ordering the engine, got it in 3 days, not bad. They test ran the engine for 15 minutes before shipping, ahhhh the sweet smell of gas when I opened the box. I haven't had a chance to bolt it up and run it and the more I got to looking, it had a familiar look. So I went to the Cermark to look at the SPE 40cc, and sure enough they look almost identical. Carb, muffler, back of the crankcase is different, and it came with an RCxel ignition. I have a zenoah g38 on a Goldberg Extra 330, fly's great, the weight difference between the zenoah and the Master Torque is unbelievable. When I got the box, I thought there was no way this could be the engine I ordered. Here are a few pics, there isn't a comparison photo of the SPE, but if you've seen one you'll see the similarities.

Odd cylinder, I like the mounting plate on the back, should help you to keep from breaking the mounting lugs. I had a 50cc I broke lugs off 3 crankcases[:@], I only had to pay for one, but it still almost crashed my plane once. I just bought some 1/4 inch American aluminum plate to make mounting plates for my rice burner engines from now on.

That is one of the differences between this and the SPE. On the SPE the brackets are one piece with the crank case, this one has a backplate with aluminum mount.

I believe SPE also sells that backplate as a repair for broken lugs. The cylinder appears to be a re-worked SPE. Hard to tell just from the pictures though. Looks like one of TomyRCmodels efforts.

Hope you will give us a full report on the engine after you have run and installed on a airframe, Want to hear the good, bad and ugly.
I thnk you are going to be pleased with it, All the testing I have done it idles very smooth and good throttle response, I seen one report that it was running ruff in the air if so it means that air flow over the carb making the float diaphragm act up,
This is a common problem with all engines no mater what you paid for them.
Below is a link to a quick fix to that problem

Got an airframe for it the other day, a Skyshark Christen Eagle. I think it will be a good match. Milton, I remember your name from the purchase of the engine, what size prop have you used on this engine. I have a Zenoah G38 with an top flite 18x10 on a goldberg extra 330 and it is awsome. This 27%, 40cc class of planes is just great, they fit in just about any type of vehicle, give the presence and stability of large scale planes at reasonable costs. Can't beat it.
The G38 was having problems starting, prime it, flip the prop, get a pop like its trying to fire but it wouldn't run. Sent it to Horizon Hobbies to have it repaired, they received it the day after Thanksgiving. I added a note to the box explaining that I would like an estimate on the cost to repair the engine with phone and email to reply to. Needless to say, one of the parts that they were waiting for as explained to me would not come in until Febuary. They never called or emailed, I had to call them every week just to find out the status of the engine. Talked to the supervisor yesterday and am having them to send the engine back. Anyone else had a bad experience with them before?

Break in with a 20-6 and then go to a 20-10
The problem with saying what size prop is there are so many out there now and the all give different rpm and thrust.

I was thinking a 20x10 would work but maybe too much pitch. I was trying to determine prop size based on what 40cc to 45cc engines run and get a happy medium, but a 20x6 for break in and a 20x10 sounds good. I did get the firewall drilled out, cowl cut out to fit on the Christen Eagle. Hope there is nice weather next week, should have it all together to fly. Will post some pics of it tomorrow

TOMYRCMODELS is the manufacturer of the MT line of engines, and is also the developer of the SPE line of engines. Do a search here on RCU, and you will find a thread where he talks about the SPE not being his best work, and the MT line being a much improved effort.
