Where can you find all the better quality engine oils like amsoil and klotz? All I've ever seen is stuff like Lawn-boy and Ace. Do you have to order it from somewhere?

Hi Taildragger; You can get Klotz from any hobby shop that deals with Great Planes. (Or Tower if you have to) I get my Zenoah oil from my LHS. (Or Horizon Hobbies if you have to)

Amsoil and Klotz aren't the only better quality oils. Zenoah markets a very high quality synthetic, as does Castrol, Belray, and a few others.

Hi Taildragger, I get Klotz KL-300 synthetic at my local motorcycle shop. As far as Amsoil, I became a dealer just to be able to buy it for myself and a few close friends. If you live near Little Rock or Texarkana you should be able to find an Amsoil dealer listed in the business pages of a phone directory.

Many of the very best 2-cycle oils can be found at any motorcycle shop that sells dirtbikes. Usually, you can find one of those close by and I've never seen a bike shop like that shop that didn't stock several of the Klotz products.

Never thought about a bike shop. But they don't mix oil in their gas do they. Can the same oil be used in the crankcase of one?

2 stroke dirt bikes do mix the gas and oil.
Belray MC-1 is my preferance mixed at 50 to 1.

I use Echo weedeater/chainsaw oil to break in a new engine as it is petroleum based and seems to be a good quality product. It is available at many power garden/ranch products dealers. As the other guys stated, most of the 2 stroke synthetic motorcycle oils are very good after break-in. You don't have to be in too big of a hurry to switch to synthetic oils as many engines need a pretty fair number of hours to get properly broken in with the non-synthetic stuff. The Zenoah's, for instance, really need a pretty long break-in period it seems.

Yea, I'm aware of the break-in period. I've broke in my share of em but I've always used petroleum based oil because that's all I've ever seen on the shelves. But, To my knowledge I've never been in a bike shop!

Default Stihl 2 Cycle

I was recommended to use Stihl 2 cycle oil and it's abundant at equipment rental places.

Try Pennzoil for air cooled engines (not the one for outboards etc.) Hmmmmmm...how can I say this?....Walley World and the one that just filed for Chapter 11 usually carries it, I've broken in three motors with this oil...As soon as the exaust starts running fairley clear the go to the synthetic....don't go by gallons...

There is no bad brand name oil out there in 2002. Buy wherever it is convenient. Remember, any manufacturer's oil is going to be tested and recommeneded for their equipment. For example both Echo or Stihl markets oil. Their commercial leaf blowers run at up to 12,000 rpm day in, day out and last literally for years. Ask any lawn service guy. Once the engine is run in, use a synthetic, only for the aethetics of it. These modern angines are going to die in a crash long before you wear them out.

There ya go...I'm finally glad to see someone other than me try to get this out...ALL oils meet a standard or it wouldn't be maunfactured.....You can only change a oils makeup so many ways...and usually comes out of the same barrel just under a different name...

Most service guys will tell you that most of the stuff they see will be burnt up from lack of oil, (kids or wife using straight gas instead of premix) contaminated fuel...lean running due to a wacked out carb..(Over heating, instead of fixing it) and abuse...#1 killer of a air cooled engine..

All the tolerances have been worked out to where the engine will run under most any circumstances...(Goof Proof) because their are those out their the don't read instructions or want to wring out every last ounce of torque..out of a small of a motor when the next larger one would be better and last foreaver because it would be operated in the RPM range\mix it was designed for..

Just 2 cents...

Default Klotz

Hi Taildragger, take a look at the Klotz site for information on their products and they do have an online store too.
