Hi there, I bought a DA-100 used, sent it back for a check-up. They replaced the bearings and the prop shaft. Can someone measure the exposed length of the prop shaft for me, please? I bought a 35% WH Extra 300, mounted the DA to it, and put the spinner backplate on, then tried to put the prop on it and ran out of prop shaft, couldn't even get the prop washer on.... Is this normal?
I measured my prop shaft and it comes out to be a fraction over 1-5/16" long.

I'm not sure what you want me to measure, but if you can be more specific, I can measure whatever you want. Normally between the firewall and the engine, there are 4 "standoffs" that move the engine more forward to make the spinner backplate line up about 1/8 inch in front of the cowl. These standoffs can be as short as 1/4 inch or as long as one inch. Since each 100 cc engine is different, the plane manufacturers make the firewall short enought that all engines will fit with the appropriate standoffs. You can buy aluminum standoffs, or you can make your own from some hardwood dowels.

Hi thanks for responding. I am talking about the length of the shaft that comes directly out of the front of the engine. The bolt or "shaft" that the prop sits on and the spinner cone screw goes into. Thanks.

I measured mine and I got the same as you did. I'm using a Mejzlik 27X10 and the prop shaft doesn't quite make it all the way through the washer so you must have a really thick prop. What kind is it?

I'm confused. The DA-100 comes with a 6-bolt aluminum prop hub. It takes 6 bolts to attach the prop to the hub. Then there is a 7th bolt that threads into the center of the hub that hols the spinner on. This 7th bolt does not hold the prop on. The 6 bolts that come with the engine are typically long enough for attaching any brand of 27 or 28 inch prop (wood or Carbon).

Yep. I think he might have thought it was critical for the shaft to end up flush with the prop washer. Mine comes close but not quite. I like for it to at least come partially into the washer for alignment but it's not really neccessary.

It depends on what prop you use, some are thinner like zingers. I have a Zoar and a mezjick and on those the shaft does not come through the washer. It only has just a bit of shaft for the washer to be on. As long as you use the 6 bolts through the washer though you should be fine.
