Looking to buy a BME 50 Engine for 1/5 scale Pica Spitfire. From what I seen on another web site the carb stick outside the cowel is this a problem?

The BME 50 is an excellent engine, Spitfires however by their design have long narrow cowls so engines with side mounted carbs usually end up with the carb or it's intake partially sticking through a hole in the cowl, which is not a problem, just undesireable from a scale point of view. Engines with rear or front mounted carbs like DA or MVVS usually make for a much cleaner install.

Not worried about carb sticking out. My concern is with the carb sticking out will too much air from the prop cause a problem with how the engine runs. This kit Pica Spitfire is built with a beam mount for the engine that is why I am looking to use the BME 50.

Just FYI, Taurus makes the TS 52 with a beam mount if you order it that way. You shouldn't have any porbles with the external carb. Perhaps some fuel siphoning but that can be easily cured with a small deflector attached to the forward half of the venturi.
