Six is the magic number I use which is close enough. For instance a Quadra 42 is 42 x 6 =2.52 cu. in. I like things simple.

Default cc to inch conversion

1 cu centimetres (cc) = 0.0610 cu inch
1 cu inch = 16.387 cc

Or you can get the Conversion Buddy Freeware Program ( http://www.nist.gov/cgi-bin/exit_nis...3/conversi.htm ) and take out the calculations.

Default cc to inch conversion

I tried downloading the previously mentioned program for comparison purposes, but the "download" link points to an invalid web address.

1 cubic inch = 16.38706 cubic centimeter
1 cubic centimeter = 0.06102374 cubic inch

The conversion program I use can be had from http://www.joshmadison.com/software/ as freeware, yet accurate enough for use by NASA and on the spacestation.

I would attach it here, but it is to large (153K)

Default Try this one.

Go to the GSAL web page (not the yahoo group)

www.gsal.org

>Click on "tools" on the left side and you can go into several great conversions. (length, weight, and neat one to help with motor offset)

I saved the link and use it quite a bit.

Hope this helps........Mark

I was pondering this thought several years ago when converting a weedie and came up with 2.54 cm/inch. So 2.54 cubed equals 16.387064 or 1 divided by 16.387064 =.06102374....... Depending on which direction you want to convert.

Why D/L a program when there's an on-line converter right here:

http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/conversions.html

I keep it in my Favorite places so it's always handy.

When you're on the road (or at the field), you don't always have an Internet connection for your laptop. The programs are so small, and harddrives so big, it doesn't really hurt to download them.

Besides, I've seen on-line converters come and go because the person running them doesn't care anymore after they leave University, or they let the domain registration lapse. Once it's downloaded on my harddrive, it doesn't dissapear.

This is Middle School math.

1 inch = 2.54 centimeters

1 cubic inch = 2.54 x 2.54 x 2.54 = 16.387064

With that said:

1) an OS FX .46 is .46 cubic inches. When you mulitiply that by 16.387064 you get 7.53804944 cubic centimeters.

2) a Moki 180 is 1.80 cubic inches. When you multiply that by 16.387064 you get 29.4967152 cubic centimeters.

3) a Yamaha Roadstar 1600 motorcycle is 1600 cubic centimeters. When you divide that by 16.387064 you get ~97.63799 cubic inches.

Most 2&4 stroke glow engines are advertised in cubic inches, like the OS FX .46 (The OS BGX-1 3500 is actually 35cc, the Super Tiger 4500 is actually 45cc, etc)

Most Gas motors are advertised in cubic centimeters, e.g., Zenoa G26 is 26 cubic centimeters and is equivalent to a glow 1.58 motor in size. (The MVS 1.6 is actually 1.6 cubic inches, the RCS 140 is actually 1.4 cubic inches)

Yep, all you got to know is that a .61 engine is a 10cc displacement engine as converted to metric from the inch system.
Therefore, if you want to convert a 60cc gas engine to the inch system, you would multiply 60 by .61 and divide the result by 10. This gives 3.66 cubic inches. To convert the 3.66 engine back to cc's or metric, you would multiply 3.66 times 10 and divide the result by .61 cubic inches, or 60 cubic centimeters. Of course you already knew the answer! Isn't it amazing that this can be accomplished without a computer! Did youi know that you can buy one wrench that will handle both inch and metric bolts? It is called the Crescent wrench!

I prefer Vise-Grips!

Three tools in one:

>Adjustable cresent wrench (with teeth to grab those metric nuts you stripped by using the SAE wrench)

>>Pliers

>>>Hammer (hey....if the real hammer isn't within arms reach the back of the Vise-Grips works just fine)

Think I have seen some of your old engines at the RC auctions! They are the ones that have all those ugly teeth marks in the aluminum drive washers from grabbing the engines with water pump pliers instead of holding the prop to back off or tighten the prop nuts. Just kidding but have you seen how some fliers destroy all the good machined surfaces that the Chinese have put into their clone engines. Gee, I thought someone would comment on the "red" smoke coming out of that model in my attached pic.??? Ever seen that before?

Default Red Smoke

Mark: don't know how they did it as I downloaded the image off an internet site some time ago? Do you suppose it is a forgery that someone digitally colored the white smoke?

RED SMOKE

Looks like a cansiter hanging between the gear.

Speaking of which (and off topic) does anyone know where to get a small smoke canister that you can light by remote?

Roland Matt had some at the TOC so my guess is someone will be marketing them soon.

.......Mark
