Default RE: Ignition question?

Hi skilet92,

Thanks for the info I figured that since the sensor was picking up the magnets to fire at least once, I thought the ICU unit had to be at fault. But your comment on a bad sensor peaked my curiosity.

My Evolution unit is out of warranty and I have nothing to loose, so I powered up both units; the Evolution and my Dl 50 ignition and took some voltage readings.

The Evolution was on a 6V battery and the DL was on a 4.8V battery. Both units utilize a 3-wire system, and this is what I found out. The DL has the standard Black, Red, White combo. Once I stripped the Evolution it had a White, Brown, Green, combo.

The voltage readings went like this.
DL Unit
Black = Ground
Red = 5.2V
White = 5.2V

Evolution Unit
White = Ground
Brown = 6.8V
Green = 6.8V

I took a spare working sensor from the DL unit and hooked it up to the Evo ICU. Now I had a choice, there are two possible combination to chose, and I chose the wrong one, Black to White, Red to Green, and White to Brown. This combo did not do anything, NO SPARK.

I switched the wires around
BLACK to WHITE
RED to BROWN
WHITE to GREEN

This combination had the same effect as the original Evolution Hall Sensor, it only fired once after passing the second magnet. So in my case I believe that the ICU unit is bad, since both hall sensors reacted the same. However if you believe it's your sensor just hook up the combination above with a new hall sensor and try it, you may be luckier than me. A DL hall sensor is around $7 dollars, it may be worth a try.

Hope it works for you.

That is worth a try. I am waiting on the owner to tell me if horizon will replace the ICU under warrenty. If they want i will try the combo that you did. Thank you!

Hi dunno if this helps but alot of igitions have timed cuttoff safety features so you need start the motor seconds after switchon.

I'm not a hundred percent sure on the time, but I believe with the Evolution Ignitions you have 90 sec, if it does not see any prop movement, anyway there is a led that flashes once per second when it goes to stand-by, at least on mine.
