Default DA 50-R in a Midwest Cap 80"

Just seen the new DA 50-R. I am thinking of fitting this in a Midwest Cap 80" span, instead of a Moki 2.10. Anybody got any thoughts on this combination ?.
The plane is not finished yet so can still adjust the firewall if necessary. What silencers (mufflers) are available for this engine at the moment ?.
Also is anyone using the fully symmetrical tail-plane on this plane ?.

Since this plane is similar in size and weight to the Extra, I can tell you that this combo would be ballistic. You'll also appreciate burning cheaper gas too. My 52cc Brison engine yanks my Extra around without mercy, yet landing speed is quite slow. My finished weight is estimated at 16 pounds.

This would be a great combo.

They have a standard side mount muffler for around $70, as well as a pitts style for $100 (you lose about 300 RPM with the Pitts style but it is also quieter).

I had a DA 50 in the 80" H9 cap and at 16lbs, the above term "yank" is a good one to use.
Now if they just produced a 75-80cc engine.

I heard that there will be a 75 somewhere in the future.

Definitely an "unlimited" combo. My 15.5lb Extra will accelerate vertically at 3/4 throttle with the DA 50.

I was wondering about that, since the 50 is sort of a half-100, I was wondering if they were going to cut the 150 in half. Of course I know there is more to it than that but producing a 75 would generate a lot of sales.

Anyway, just took a vid of my 52cc powered Extra, will hopefully have it up soon. You can see how the engine hauls it out of a hover, and the DA-50 should have even more power!

rcpilot44,

I hope what you heard will come true. Since the 50 is a wonderful little engine one would only expect a 75 equally satisfying.

Default DA50

I have a DA50 in a Midwest Extra 300S, similar to the plane you have. I have about 1 1/2 gallons of fuel through it, and it is absolutely awesome! I am using the Slimline Pitts type muffler furnished by Desert Aircraft and using a 22-8 Menz prop. Engine is breaking in, and will soon be ready for a 22-10 Menz (I think). Just be sure you have the plane put together well, as the DA50 is a powerhouse and will really pull that baby through the skies.

Oh, I posted my vid of my Midwest Extra/Brison 3.2 in the 3D forum. If anyone is wondering how well a 50cc engine does in a typical 80" aerobat (and I definitely was when making my engine decision), the vid should answer your questions. I can only imagine how well the plane would do with a DA-50
