Default Engine accessories compatible with DL-50

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a DL-50 to put in a TF GS P-51 and I'm now looking around to see what accessories (ie: mufflers, etc..) will fit this engine.
I know many have said that most components made for the DA-50 will work with the DL but I wanted to be sure which ones will work and which ones will not.

For exhausts, it looks like the JTec wrap-around Pitts style muffler will work and the Keleo custom muffler will fit as well. I've been discussing the option of creating my own exhaust over on the TF P-51 build thread but I'd really like to know what other components people have successfully purchased that can be used with this engine.

I am specifically looking for a shaft extension for this engine and I've been unsuccessful in finding one that looks like it would fit. I'm hoping to move the engine back a bit closer to the firewall in order to cut down on how much of the engine will have to stick out of the cowling.

Thanks,
Russ

Edit: I missed where you already know about the Keleo exhaust.

...he can probably make you one, does countless numbers of prop hubs for other engines, and has been doing so a long time. He knows his stuff, great guy to deal with.

Super08, i did find the keleo exhaust from where it was mentioned in the TF P-51 build thread. However, it has two major problems. #1 it is currently not available, # 2 it is way over my budget

Chad, thanks for the info. I'll follow up on that. I can't believe with all of the people buying this engine that there aren't stock extenders out there for sale.

Thanks,
Russ

His exhaust header is flexable and fits tightly to the engine.

I just ordered a B&B Bennett muffler for the DL-50. It's tough to find anything that will not require some cowl cutting.....If your're willing to spend $175- $250 for a special product, maybe........

Sierra has prop hub extensions for the DA50 and DL50. http://www.sierraprecision.com/prod32.html
I use a slimline pitts muffler on mine. A buddy uses the J-tec muffler on his. Says he wishes he got the slimline instead. Dont remember why. He still uses the J-tec. My slimline fits real good inside the cowl of my GP Yak54.

Edwin,

These are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the tip. The only problem is... I don't know which one of those is for the DA/DL 50 (of those pictured). Do you have one of these? I'd like to see specifically what I'm getting before I buy.

I'll check out the slimline but I suspect you are right as far as it fitting in the cowl completely. I definitely can't dish out $300 for a muffler, but I will certainly experiment with making my own before I give up.

Soarrich, cool muffler. Only problem is the mount. Since it comes out away from the engine so far, I would have to cut away for that.

Thanks,
Russ

I dont have the prop extension. Spychalla uses them on his yellow spitfire. He sells extensions too, the link below shows his. I would make my own from my lathe if I were to do it. My slimline was about $150 for the smoker.

Jtec has a new Pitts avail for the TF 1/5 P51 using either the DA or DL 50-55 engine. it's modified at the exhaust manifold and fits completely within the cowl. So with both of those engines being rear carb engines and with this muffler .... no holes save the head which is a good thing for cooling.
