Default EVOLUTION 26GX ENGINE QUESTIONS

Hello Gentleman. I have just recently purchased a 26GX to go on my Hanger 9 Ultrastick. I am wondering if any body has usued the optional radial mont that is held in place by the four screws that hold the rear cover on. Since I have to move the mounting holes on the firewall from there stock position to a position to accomdate the wider crankcase on the gx , compared to lets say a saito 180 ,I was considdering the radial mount. The only thing that makes me a little weary is we all know these engines vibrate , especially a idle and those 4 srews that hold on the rear cover are not that big of a diameter. Any way if any of you have usued this engine with or with out the radial mount I Would love to here from you guys .

Sincerly, Racer7696

There are gassers much bigger than this using similar radial mounts....like some of the Taurus and BME engines. I wouldn't worry about that. I would be more concerned with the lack of ability to easily adjust the engine fore and aft as you can with the beam mounts. Building a spacer is no big deal, but this is something you can think about before spending the $$

This engine vibrates less than a glow because it has electronic ignition which set the timing right.
And the backcover screws will hold I know. they are a little longer to the radial mont.

This will do

or do as I did.

The radial mount is very strong, and can easily be ajusted fore/aft. Once you start using radial or back mounts, you will never go back to the clumsy "universal" mounts.
I even use a back cover plate mount for my .15 engines, set up on isolator mounts. Every single bolt of those M4 allen screws holds a ton of force, so that certainly is not the weakest link in the total force transmission train.

Lennart,
That is an extremely nice back mount system.
I see that you have no vibration compensation in your header. How did the construction hold during the long practice and competition hours?

Lennert,

Where did you get that radial mount? I might like to have one.

Thanks,

Hi all.
The prop I have on the MVVS is APC 18/6 W. I have tried both Mejzlik and Biela but I have got the best overall performance with the APC.
We do not change propeller between IMAC sequence flying and Freestyle so the plane is a little slower but it has the best static thrust for Freestyle.
But the APC was very bad manufactured very out of balanced and the center was not flat. When I have fix that and put a big washer behind because it doesn't fit properly
from the beginning due to the design of the propellerhub, its perfect. OK its a bit heavy and a lighter propeller should have a faster spin up and be a little nicer to the engine.

Hi Pe.
I was a little worried about the header because its made of KS parts and very thin SS, but I have not had any problems
after two seasons hard flying. The pipe is only supported at the rear, and the rubber in the engine mount is very hard so the engine cant move.
Why I chose KS parts was because the have 22mm 90 degrees bends with only 36mm radie and I haven't seen that anywhere else.
The back mount is Sullivan, I could have used it as it was from the beginning but I got one from a friend who had drilled at the wrong places
and I wanted only the back part with the rubber, so I made it this way because I have used back mount on all my glow engines in the past and it worked.
I can only say that this setup has performed perfect and everybody at all contest and displays we have been at has been very impressed and surprised when
they are told that its a 26cc gas engine in that plane.

You did a good job. I too like the short-stroke, soft rubber mounts best.
They do not allow the engine to move much, but are very soft for the first 0.1mm and tight when deflexed more, which makes for a stable engine setup that still has good vibration isolation.

Aeroparts ,That is one of the nicest mounts that I have seen on any engine. So I guess that solves ity I will go with the radial mount , However I would like to adabt some rubber isolation mounts like Aeroparts did I think that would be a big help.

On closer examination it looks like it's a Sullivan beam mount with the beams cut off and you fabricated a sheet-metal adapter. You did a nice job on it. I have a Saito 1.50 on one of those mounts. Very happy with it.
