I wish the web site would state the weight of the mufflers.

Only a minimum power loss. WHAT??? You mean to tell me you went to the trouble to design and build and market TITANIUM mufflers and they rob your engine of only a little power? I get 800 more RPM from a friggin beer bottle!

Yea, but by me I could only find Bud Light with Lime, I love beer but after drinking half of it I just poured it out to get the bottle.

I tried just drilling eight holes in the bottom, then putting it on the header, not very good. What's the link to you muffler's again, my 9 year old computer died and took my links with it.

I have a set of the S&W Titanium mufflers. Tried them on a DA-100. Fairly quiet operation, engine ran fine, didn't seem to have any issues temperature-wise, but just didn't seem as powerful as we thought it should be. Breaking it in with a Menz 27x10 prop, couldn't get above 5700 rpm. Took the mufflers off one day and ran open exhaust - went up to something like 6200 rpm.

Switched over to a set of 'standard' mufflers from SlimLine. Definitely a bit noisier, but still in the 6100+ rpm range.

The output end of the mufflers looks like it's a titanium washer welded to the end of the 'pipe'. That could probably be drilled out and reduce the back-pressure a bit. Might get some RPM gain, but it would then be louder.

Bottom line: Light - yes. Quiet - reasonably so, not as quiet as canisters. "Minimum" power loss...... define minimum. I saw about a 500 rpm gain by switching to a standard muffler..... I'd call that more than "minimum", but maybe it's just me!

So...... I have $300 worth of S&W Titanium mufflers sitting there on the bench doing nothing..... if anyone wants to try out a set for a DA-100, first $50 gets them!! Or, might be an interesting experiment for a couple of DA-50's!!

Cheers.

Barry

Yes, but it builds into lighter stuff by being so much stronger and heat resistant.

Not according to this site:

http://education.jlab.org/itselemental/ele022.html

" It is as strong as steel and twice as strong as aluminum, but is 45% lighter than steel and only 60% heavier than aluminum"

This may not convince you, but it would me:

Ferrari spends 300 million dollars a year on their TWO race cars, that enough to buy every race team in NASCAR and NASCAR itself, they use TI for their headers. It works for me.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Incredible hi tech stuff for such boring races! I will never understood how F-1 continues to exist. But back on subject, several years ago there were a few RC heli mufflers made of titanium. Main advantage was strength and lack of breakage. Stainless was just about as good though and much cheaper. Once again though, aluminum has returned as the material of choice.

I maintain jet aircraft for a living and titanium is a great material suitable for many things, however a poorly designed Ti muffler is still a poorly designed muffler no matter what it's made of.

Those mufflers look like nothing more than exhaust stacks.
