Default Any difference in plugs used?

I have an SPE43 that uses a champion RCJ6Y plug. I've switched to an Rcexl ignition that has a boot for the champion RDJ8J plug which has a smaller socket. The threads and depth are the same for both plugs.Ive swapped to the 8J plug so that I can use the rcexl ignition system.
Does anyone know if there will be any performance shortfall or change in engine characteristics? I notice the 6Y does have its spark point further than the 8J.

The number indicates the heat range of a plug, the lower the number the colder the plug. I doubt very much that you will notice any significant difference in performance there, just make sure to retune your engine after the plug change.

Thanks Karol. I''ve got it mounted in my Midwest Cap which had a saito 50cc twin that was burning glow fuel and a hole in my pocket. Hope this engine will be just as good.I'm using a single cell lipo on the rcexl. Did some tests and it sparks even at 3volts.Will see how it runs.

I switched from glow to gas for that very same reason, cost. Unfortunately the SPE engines are not noted for their power and remember that a similar sized gas engine can't match the power output of their glow counterpart, but hopefully the 43 will provide sufficient power to fly your model satisfactorily. A single cell lipo will work quite well with the RCexl ignition too.

you can get NGk plugs from NAPA auto parts store. Champion will work fine, though. Mechanics just don't think highly of Champion brand.

I am new to gas engines and purchased my first gaser, a DL50. A friend at our field said to buy a spark plug from Dersert Air for their
DA50 that is the same size as the DL50 plug but is superior and to discard the DL50 plug. Is this the thing to do?

Be aware that the e3 plug you pictured is a GREAT working plug; I've used them before. ** BUT ** they are NOT 'resistor' type. If your application/setup needs a resistor plug, you don't have one there.

Karol, the DL50 engine comes with a chinese version of a CM6 plug.

Marine Three....you can pick up a NGK CM6 plug many other places than DA

Advance auto Parts
Oreilly auto Parts
NAPA
.....etc, just call ahead. If they don't have em on the shelf, they can get em.

Yep your friend is right on.

I tossed that chinese one and put in a brand new CM6 I had laying around from my sold DA-50. Works great. I heard the chinese one didn't last too long.

hi bob...thanks for pointing that out...lesson learned...my analog hs-645 tail servo was dancing to the tune of my ignition...i swapped the rudder to ailerons, and the rudder was still dancing, while the ailerons were solid...so i repositioned the ignition wires away from the radio wires, and replaced the hs-645 w/ a digital hs-5625 that needed a home...now the rudder and other controls are rock steady...only problem, i don't know if repositioning the wires or replacing the servo did the trick...lol...i'm still looking for a local source for bpmr6f plugs...ken

EDIT: i got a champion rdj7y from napa...found this great plug cross-reference link, which showed that the ngk bpmr6f, champion rdj7y, and denso t20mp-u are interchangeable...
