What news of your new FG-21 is it a better engine than the FG-20?

What is failling on them? Ignition, Carburation issue?
Ask him if he wants to send one to me and I will take a look.
The "old FG20" I have the fix for them. Replace the carb with a zama and CH ignition.
Thanks
Adrian
My FG-20 was running great, I had it running with the CG Ignition and it was almost flawless. I just passed two gallons on it and fried another exhaust valve seat. I've been running the engine in the open air without a cowl on the plane on it since last Summer.
Most people have found that the FG20 mixture has to be tuned to run right while flying. To adjust the needles and put it in the air doesn't work. After you take off and see what it does, come back and touch up the needle one click at a time until it flies correctly. Start off a little rich.
I still have my FG20, it isn't 100% still, with all the issues everyone has been having, plus a spark plug made of cheese which almost went through the top of the engine when it broke, electrode was a cast piece which fractured across the moulded part and touched the earth =, creating a dead short stopping the engine (luckily). After repeated calls and emails to Hobby Headquarters (HHQ) and the Local Hobby Store (LHS) who sold me the thing, not a single thing has been done to rectify this engine from new (3 years old now cost was $750). I have the engine running about 90% now but don't trust it, (2 new plugs, new ignition module, 3 new and different batteries) I know (from a local magazine article) that HHQ have supplied new replacement carbies for this batch of faulty engines, but I was never sent one, they also sent out replacement spark plugs for the faulty ones and replacement ignition modules to several modellers from the local club, except for me. So I'm not impressed with my LHS or Hobby Headquarters in Sydney they have completely disregarded my concerns and claims from day one yet yielded to the same issues from others with more clout? Would I buy another 4 stroke Gas Saito, probably not.
Thanks
set it up like a nitro!, with a nipple on the muffler, pressureize (or how ever you spell it) the tank! fixes everything. no air bubbles, better throttle response.
No need to thank me
Darcy
Did you just add a pressure nipple to the FG-20 muffler or use a nitro muffler from a FA-125 or similar.
Did the tank pressure make the FG-20 needle settings less sensitive and did it change the amount the needle had to be open?
Thanks
David

Hi all,
I have just managed to purchase a new FG21 - faintly hopeful that it wil be an improvement on my FG20. I experienced the same issues that many have expressed in this thread. Indeed I had the ignition unit replaced twice and the carb replaced three times by MacGregor in the UK. Also, had to replace three Saito spark plug. Like many I am a Saito lover - two FG30's and an FG57 - these run sooo sweetly, so with the new mods on the FG21 I am hoping that it will not dissapoint. I will let you know how I get on!
Cheers
so how have you been doing with the new FG-21?

Dont you think it is dangerous to pressurize the gas tank?
Gasoline is much more flammable than methanol. Maybe if you put a flame arrestor in the line… For instance, a metal fuel filter between the muffler and the tank.
I was just wondering…

I have a simple question, If, when you held the plane up, the fuel line filled with bubbles, where did the air come from?
maybe the clunk was not in the fuel, or you have a pin hole in the fuel line inside the tank.
Cheers

i just added a pressure nipple to the FG-20 muffler and i had to do 1 or 2 clicks leaner, the reason behind doing it was when i held the plane up the fuel line got full of air bubbles. i have heard of someone doing this to a NGH9cc engine and it worked for him so i didn't see why not to do it the Saito

Its not pressurizing it to a dangerous level, its like giving it a slight push to help it reach to carby easyier, i asume if anything was going to happen, it would have happened in the first few tank fulls, i'v done about 4 flights with it like now and haven't noticed a swallon fuel tank yet. Besides i'v seen alot of people do this with engines that don't have Walbro Carbs. But if it exploded in the air it would be worth the sight

I need advice on what to do next with my FG-20 to get it to run.
I purchased the Saito almost 18 months ago and I have finally gotten aroundto do the break in. The low and high end needle settings are set as received from the manufacturer. The problem is I have fuel in the fuel feed line up to the carburetor but it will not draw fuel into the carburetor.
If I add fuel manually into the carburetor, the engine will fire up on the second flip of the prop every time and run for 10 seconds or less until the fuel is spent. I removed the fuel tank from the aircraft and checked all fuelline plumbing, nothing kinked or pinched off. The inline fuel filter is not blocked and thereareno air bubbles in the fuel feed line andthe vent line is clear and open.
If I remove the fuel line at the carburetornipple inlet, fuel from the tank will flow freely
I hope there is something simple I am missing to do to get the engine running
I hate to have to senda new engineback to HH for warranty work
Any advice on what to do next will be very much appreciated

I believe Saito have released a new carby, to replace the one supplied with the FG20, contact HH for a replacement.
I'm sure that will solve your problem.

Before it would run for about 20 or so seconds then it started to die, i check all the lines and found no air bubbles, even once i sooked it with fuel, If you sook your lines in fuel first its really show's where the air is leaking in but nothing, then simply just putting the vent line on the muffler did the trick, i Must admit, that solved the fuel flow problem but the engine is still running sh#t house, it revs out fine for about a minute before it starts to choke but i can still keep it running, this only happeneds once its in the air, i think i may need to remix some fresh fuel and/or ad a little air scoop to get better air flow in to the carby because its in a cowl and hiding behind a cylinder.

Sounds like you may need the new carby, apparently the hole in the throttle rotor was too small, the new carby fixed this.
Also you must be sure that the hole in the back of the Pump/carby is free to breath, not just the air inlet, so you may need a bit more air flow around the carby.
Cheers
