Here is the video of the maiden flight.
Had some real gusty winds, but made the maiden anyway.
When the winds are calmer and I get the engine tuned better, I will do some ringing it out and post some more vids.

Default RE: New CRRC Pro GP50R prototype 50cc

Just an update on the engine.
It is holding up well so far.
I did change the ignition to an RCEXL ignition.
The stock CRRC ignition plug cap was loose and it would intermitingly spark.
CRRC made the new engine case from harder aluminum and I replace the first softer engine case.
The rpm numbers went down about 250-300 rpm.
I have run about 1 1/2 gallons through the engine since then and the rpm are coming back alittle.
I used to get 7500 rpm with a Mejzlik 22 X 8 ( Feb. 1st 2008 ) and it was about 40 degrees with low humidity.
Yesterday, I got 7300 with the Mejzlik 22 X 8 ( Aug. 15th 2008 ) and it was 92 degrees with 73% humidity.
I am still having an issue with the plane and cowl making the low end rich in the air.
I opened the outlets of the cowl more, which helped the issue, but it is still there.
I am going to run a tube from the carb into the fuse to take the cowlpressure away from the carb.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Hi 2robinhood :
On mine , ive put the new CRRCpro ignition. No more problems. Ive removed the spark plug cap, and mounted again with the RCEX boot (silicone) and retractable tube with adhesive as RCEXL does. Also i've put a clamp (collar ? ) on rear side of plug cap.
My engine does the same rpm numbers as with old crankcase mounted (left on the picture). The factory send me the new crankcase time ago with all parts mounted , no serial number this time and i only have to change the piston, cylinder and carb. I don't know if bearings are now glued (sealed) to the crankcase , but it seems improved and will run as expected. I think it will be ready for sales soon.....

That is the way mine came also. I just had to do the piston, cylinder and carb.
Jody's and mine both were down on rpm's after the case change, ours were down 200-300 rpm.

Just curious, is this the same head as the DL. I mean it looks exactly the same, inside and out, from the pictures i have seen. I know that an engine is an engine but this head looks no different than my DL50's.

Remember i've mounted the new ignition from CRRC. Maybe that's the diference ...

Yup, I heard that was why DL switched to the 55 and the 111. The suppler started to sell their parts to other engine manufactures. If you look around you will see many new 50cc engines out of China with the DL head/piston, etc. They just use there own bottom end.

OK the 426 th DA clone. CRRC better makes it perfect, otherwise why would we buy one, and DL has so much advance.
Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Chinese to make their own design, or if they have to, to clone a 3W for example.
3W engines are a littlebit heavier but for a reason I believe. The DA fans are widely spoiled these days, time to start spoiling the 3W fans. Run those cloning machines at full power so we get rid of these dreadful standoffs to apply a proper mounting method to
our 400bucks high end engines.

DA is a 3W clone. DL is a DA clone. DL has many clones. It's the way of the world. Remember all the ignition engines of the 30's and 40's?

I see the GP50Rs are hitting the streets now, does anyone have any real world experience yet? I am looking for a reasonably proced engine for my GS P-51, need the RI to fit the cowl.

Hey 2robinhoodl;
I heard that the new GP50R has some issues [sm=confused.gif]? Have you heard or experienced anything that would confirm that? I don't know what those "issues" may be.

Yep.
1st issue with my 1st prototype was the engine case was made of too soft of aluminum and ater some run time the bearings started to get loose ( wearing the case ).
Second was two failed ignitions. ( I am running a RCexl ignition now ).
The new harder engine cases did not perform as well as the 1st prototype did. ( engine lost 200 - 300rpm ).
Now it seems to be running fine, I just need to put more time, time, time on it.
But since deer season is in, all my planes will not be used till around February. ( maybe one or two times on a nice weekend ).

Jody may have some more issues with his.
Maybe he will chime in.

I already talked to him. He is not too impressed about this motor, it seems.

Our 1st prototypes were power houses and this look like it was going to be a great engine.
Then things started falling apart ( company wise ). It took a long time to get the second reworked engine, which isn't the power house the 1st one was.
After deer season I will throw more time on this engine.

Well my flying goes to almost nothing when hunting season rolls in.
Hunting season is over now, but our weather has been very bad since November and it hasn't let up.
We just got 4.3 inches of rain in 3 days, and that has been over and over and over.
My flying field is a mud hole.

Pretty easy to just make one, it's the same as a DLE55.

I'm well Mike, hope you are too! My middle son is home now, got married this last summer. The youngest graduates in a couple months and then is off to ROTC, I'll be an empty nester. []
