I had the same problem SOLO 48 in describing with my DLE-111. It took me a while to figure it out but i finally did and would like to share the information with you all. The EMAS carb onmy dle 111 required an internal adjustment of the mechanical pump arm. What i found was the spring tension was too great and could not overcome engine vacuum at idle. This would cause the carb to dry up at idle (because the pump was not working) the motor would run erradic and die. When the motor was above idle it was fine becausethe vacuum wasgreat enough to actuate the pump.

I have attached an article that i feel is very helpful in making this adjustment to your carb. I adjusted mine and it now runs great.

NOTE,

This does not affect all engines so if your motor is runing fine the adjustment is not required.

Now let's check out the "float needle & seat" setting.

This is the single most critical setting on a Walbro carb! Walbro offers a "setting gauge" to properly set the height of the lever for your particular carb. If you don't have one, the setting will be a trial & error adjustment and a real pain in the butt since you have to open up the carb to make the adjustment. For general purposes, the lever will be almost perfectly parallel to the carb base. This will get you close. If the lever is too high, your engine will tend to run a little erratic at idle. If the lever is too low, your idle will be OK but it will tend to run lean on midrange and highend. It may also run the float cavity "dry" at full throttle and die, regardless of your highspeed /lowspeed needle settings.

Information was found at the following URL http://tech.flygsw.org/walbro_tuneup.htm

Hope this helps. I know it did work for my motor.

Send it to the service center address here, http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Contact%20us.htm, I will make it run and send it back to you, no charge. I will also tell you what's wrong with it and how to prevent it in the future if possible.
Can't beat service like that! Period.

Guys i wanted to chime in here on the 111. i have 4 Dl's 2 x 50, 1 x 100 and now a 111.

The two 50's have been awesome from day 1, the same for the 100, but the 111 is all over the place. It took the usual richening of the needles to get it to run and after a couple of tank fulls on the ground seemed pretty reliable.

The needle settings have to be adjustedalmost everyflight...its giving me a headache....also..i have lost a little on the top end (now on second gallon) and i'm noticing that one cylinder (on the right as you look at the plane from the front) is running richer than the other...any ideas?

Seems like that's a common thing with the twins. My 100 ran richer on the right cylinder for a couple of gallons. I now have a bit over 15 gallons through it and it runs very even. It takes a while for the rings to seat. That could be why you're chasing the needles. I had to keep leaning mine as I went. Now I never have to touch them. Sometimes it just takes time.

Yep. Ihad to keep leaning my low-end, and riching my high-end as the rings were seatting. Iwould lean the low-end about 1/8 of a turn, and richen the high end about 1/16 of a turn.

We are doing this with buddies DL100 now, and it's running great.. but still spitting black stuff.

His DL100:

32:1 Penzoil
about 3 gallons
6200 Xoar 27B 3D

My 111 arrived today and looks pretty good. It has one small blemish (casting flaw) on the outside of one cylinder and a bit on the inside of the same cylinders exhaust port. Nothing to worry about. It is a lower serial number (163) but has the new solid style hub. I sure hope it runs as well as my DL100. It has a little over 3 gallons through it now and is running like a swiss watch. Nice and smooth and turning a Xoar 27x10 at a bit over 6200. I may put this engine into my Yak later in the summer so I can break it in. It will be going into an Aeroworks Edge when they come out in the fall that I will assemble over the winter. This way when I take the Edge out next spring the engine will be run in already.

This is a little off topic, but here is a short clip of my DL-100. ( not the new DLE-111 )
I love it.
On the flights that I did that day, I was playing with the needles to see what happens to cylinder temps.
I have a Venom temp gauge on each cylinder.
This video was some of the last flight.
Temps are 237.7 degrees on the left cylinder and 234.3 on the right.
I am very happy with how it is tuned.

I bet it will fly that bipe very well. I always liked that plane. Especially the price tag. Between that and the DLE you get a power house pretty cheap.

Hi all. at the first congratulation for you all for the level of this post.

I need help from you. I'm Roberto from Brazil and I will build my first gas airplane. the one I have is the yak 54 25% great planes and I have the DLE-55. Do you think this engine will be so much power for that size of plane, about the weight I think its not a problem, because its the same weight of DL50. The wingspan of this plane is 2056mm and Fuse is 1074mm. I have heard about this plane with DL-50 and the owners its so happy with it. If you can, please just let me know about this engine run in this plane.

Have a look at the yak 54 25% GP on the pic.

Thank you very much all.

It will be fine. I fly a GP Extra 330S with a DL 50. There is very little difference between the 50 and 55.

Sorry if this question, has been asked before, but I need to ask. From what I can see the mounting pattern for the DLE111 is the same as the DA100. But I need some info on the exhaust, is it the same as the DA100. I have a QQ 102 inch Yak that had a DA100L with MTW75 canisters. I pulled just the DA out to put in another plane. So will the MTW headers bolt up, and has anyone hooked up the DLE to MTW75 cans? How did it run? I'm thinking about putting the DLE111 in the Yak, but wanted to know how it ran on canister mufflers. I have to run these cans in the Yak because of space and I need a quiet setup. I have only seen stock mufflers on the planes that I have viewed. Thanks for your time.

The DLE has the same exhaust mount as the DA. I haven't run them on cans though, you'll have to wait for others to chip in as well. I sure it runs fine.
