Well I maidened my new 73" Pilot Yak 54. What nice flying airplane! This engine is quite the combination! I am using the JTEC Pitts muffler. This engine runs sooo smooth and quiet with the JTEC Muffler. 1st tank the engine runs perfect nice idle and smooth transition. Mine however has the tilt problem on the ground. Actually at times you do not need to tilt at all. Just lift the plane up and it dies. I did not experience any issues in air but on landing it dies every time after touchdown. It really is too bad because the motor in every other respect is wonderful! Does anyone know when & where the rear carb conversion will be available from DLE? Also, could someone point me in the direction of the intake modificationpictures I may want to keep the motor in its config and make the change. Thanks edge540je

edge540je,

Congrats on the maiden!! I also have a 73" yak w/DLE-3o.

Would it be possible for you to post some pivs of the cowl cutouts for the jtec pitts muffler.

I am also wanting to use this muffler, but I am worried about massive cutouts on the cowl.

BTW: I was fortunate enough to have gotten in on Cyberwolf's(Richard) cyberplate which moves the DLE-30 carb to the rear.

Thanks in advance

MR G

Now there' a guy that does some practical thinking. It takes a real good flyer to land a triplane without tipping it up on the nose, so if the engine had that "tilt and die" mode it could save on a lot of propeller expenses Imagine, one wing rock after landing and the engine goes into an auto stop mode before the plane sets the nose. No broken props!

All kidding aside, the 30 should be a real good fit for the Fokker.

You could include a GeeBee in the came category (nose landings) but that giant fish bowl they use for a cowl won't let a propeller get even close to the ground

Hey Guys -

I have a couple panes I sell in the 30cc size (MX2 and Sbach www.redwingrc.com) and I went with the JC 28cc in the first one (it's a great engine too and the price is unbeatable for it's die hard performance).

I was skeptical about the dle 30 after what I heard, but the dle fit the cowl of the Sbach better (less cutting) so I tried it. It fired up and I didn't have any of the issues mentioned. I didn't try to tilt it on the ground, but I flew it hover torque rolls knife edge, and it never died on me. Yes, I shouldn't do this with a new engine, but I needed to get the plane in the air and tested out - anyway, it did great and no problems to report.

Has anyone had issues in flight? Or just on the ground? I haven't heard anyone say they did a high alpha knife edge and had it die or a hover etc and lost a plane. that would be my concern.

The DLE would be perfect fit for either of these planes it seems - though the JC is about $50 less and throws the MX2 around, so it just depends on if you want to save the cowl

You should go back and read the thread from the beginning. Yes, it takes time but your question has been answered about 20 times already. No flight issues.

I will be going through it closer - but in the meantime didn't want to do anything with the plane in the air that would cuase it to die.

i was going to mount my engine on the triplane at an angle so the exhaust was exiting the center , but i may mount it vertical now so i can use the prop saving tilt and die feature

My understanding is there is a new version of the DLE 30 with the improved rear intake. Is this available anywhere and if not, when will this be on the market.

I have about 1 1/2 gal. through my dle-30 with a 20x6 zinger pro @ 7600 rpm on an old 78" hanger 9 edge 540. I am on my 10th flight no dead sticks, 1700 rpm idle for landings and 2 clicks up for flying which make about 2000 rpm in flight. I used the 20x6 so I could keep the idle up. I think a 19x8 will be better once broken in.
The all-up weight is 12lb 14 oz. I have UNNNNlimited vertical and good pull-out of a hover.

So far I love this engine.
I also have a CRRC 26i on a 17x6 apc at 9000 rpm, it runs well but not even close to the power or throttle response of the dle-30.

TBM just sold all of there remaining inventory of dle-30s for $219.

This could mean a new model is on its way.
