Default When to switch to synthetic on g62

I have a g62 with about 3-1/2 gallons through it with lawnboy oil and am interested in trying synthetics. I know there has been thread after thread on the pros and cons of synthetics vs. non-synthetics, but most info that I have read just say "switch over after it is broken-in". Is 3-1/2 gallons enough break-in to make the switch?

Thanks,

I usually run about 5 gallons through the engine before I switch over to synthetics. However, there is no magic number, no right or wrong answer as you have probably noticed with all the swaying opinions. Some break in on synthetics, but most will run a few gallons of fuel with something like Lawn Boy through their engines first. I've found a few gallons to mean anything from 3 to 5 from most I've asked.

I would go with synthetic oil right away. 3 gallons on that engine is more than enough

I own three G-62 and used Amsoil since day one.
Never had a problem. The oldest is already 4 years-old and runs perfectly.

I use Amsoil in all my gas engines, even for break-in.
Never had a problem and have engines that are over 15 years old.

I don't think anyone would have problems with their engines if broken in on synthetics. The argument seems to stem around ring seating and the superior lubricant properties of the synthetics. Supposedly, if you break them in on synthetics, the rings never get a chance to seat properly, and thus never really develop their full potential in regards to power output. If you stick with regular oils, you don't get the superior lubrication and loose the increased lifespan the synthetics would give you. So their solution is to break it in on regular oil to let the rings seat properly, then switch to synthetics to reduce the wear on the engines. When to make the switch doesn't really matter, or even if you switch at all for that matter.

Frankly, I don't think the engines in our use ever see the end of their service life. We just don't use them enough to really reach that point.

A point of interest-- the last G62 I bought was on a Stinger and the guy I bought it from had never used anything but "Zenoah" oil--guess what? It is synthetic
